PAGE. NEWS, -R CQ12,D, THURSi Y,Alpp! ST SON 1974' Back, 'and thanks very much to editor Jim Fitzgerald for pinch- hitting so ably while I holidayed. However, I'm not really deserving of Jim's compliments. I may be journalistically married to this corner of Pae 2,, but it's often a case of "for better or for worse" (usually the latter). However, when the old column is getting threadbare for news, my appeal to you readers for some gleanings usually brings results.. + + + Last week Clinton lost one of its well-known citizens, William "Bill" Match. Before his retirement, he was a familiar figure in the store which still bears his DRYSDALE MAJOR APPLIANCE CENTRE LTD., SALES WITH SERVICE The Place To Buy Appliances NEW AND USED Henson 262-2728 Closed Mondays name. One wonders if the words which Robert Burns so confidently wrote will ever come to pass: "It's corrin' yet for a' that, That Man to Man, the warld o'er, j Shall brothers be for a'that!"' +++ On July 5 in Town Talk we printed a request for information on James Turnbull, the first principal of Clinton Collegiate in 1878. Since then we have been for- tunate to receive an excerpt; on the gentleman printed in the Cyclopaedia of Canadian Biography - The Rose Publishing Company 1886. The article outlines Mr. Turnbull's life from the time of his birth in Scotland to his ap- pointment as principal of the Clinton Collegiate in April 1868. The write-up also notes I that at that time the Collegiate had a staff of four masters. -WISHES A HAPPY= -BIRTHDAY To Melanie Ann Knox David Westerhout KeWITWatson, Shelley Mann Jeffrey Hayter Allison Postill Clinton Clinton R.R. 2 Clinton Clinton Varna R.R. 3 Clinton On August 31 August 31 Sept. 1 Sept. 2 Sept. 5 Sept. 5.
