Hi, it's nye again, but
you'll be pleased to know
that this is my last ap-
pearance in Peggy's
space this year, as she
returns to man the boats
again next week. Besides,
I'm getting tired of
wearing this wig and
talking in a high voice,
trying to impersonate the
lovely lady.

There are mixed
feelings in Canada today
over a proposal by the
I federalgovernment to
slow down th"e conversion
to the metric system
from the old faithful
Imperial system. The
slow -down is certainly
welcomed by all us older
folks (anyone over 30),
but in reality, it seems
- silly ,_to have spent all
those billions of dollars
making the change, and
then have it all wasted.
I know I'll never really
get used to metric, and
always think .in feet and
inches, but the rest of the
world is using it, and the
kids are all being brought
up in it, so it's just a
matter of time until
everybody will have to
know it. Even though us
oldtimers hate the new
system, it sure makes a
heck of a lot more sense
than the old one.
Now, if we could just
get a similar change
made in the English
language, as it's (or is it
its?) got to be the most
confusing, illogical,
nonsensical, dumb
language in the• whole
world. Just ask any grade
10 English student, or ".a
-harried, hurried editor. -

organized a Provincial
Seniors Championship

trebles to be played off
between two teams from
each club in each district.
The winning team in
Clinton Club was Bert
Gray, Bert Garrett and
Walter Newcombe, who
then played off in
Seaforth and won their
game there. Then they
defeated the Stratford
team which ended the
Club playdowns. They
now. go on to Toronto to
play a knock out com-
petition , between each
district for the Provincial
Seniors Championship
award on September 12
and. -13.
On account of cool wet
weather last week, there
was just one jitney held at
the Clinton Greens on
Thursday with a good
attendance. The winners
were high lady, Leona
Holland and Marj East
was second. High man
was Walter Newcombe
and Bert Gray was
second. On account of
rain Saturday, August 18,
the Bankers Tournament
was postponed to Sept. 9.
