Mr. and Mrs. Norman Alexander spent last week in Ottawa attending a convention of the Soil Conservation Society, of America held in the Chateau Laurier Hotel. Wednesday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns were Mr. and Mrs. Chester Smith of Port Elgin, , Mr. and Mrs. Russell Good, .Mrs. Sandra. Popp and. Kathy returned home on Friday August 3 from ' a week's holiday visiting cousins at Pick- ford, Michigan. They went by Tobermory and returned by Northern Ontario. Dr. and Mrs. Lester Allen of Watford spent Monday night with Mr. and Mrs. Tom .Allen, enroute home from vacation in the western provinces. Mr. 'and , Mrs. Garth McGilvary of Chesley visited on Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Orville Newby. Lisa Crompton of. Lucan spent last weekend with Janette and Jacqueline Johnston. Dorie Ellerby, Clinton, spent Monday to Friday with her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook. Visitors with Mr. and Mrs; Bill Sottiaux, Nancy. and Jennifer were Mr.' and Mrs. Bruce Aubin and .Melanie from Montreal and Mr. and Mrs. Gene Hewks from Mississauga. Mr. and Mrs. John Riley accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Alec McGregor and spent four days with them at - Wiarton, returning home on August'7. Mr. and Mr_s. 'Bob Thompson 1 spent Saturday in Kitchener with their daughter Mr. and Mrs. John I.,awrie, Robbie and .Jennifr. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lee. returned home from a two week holiday to the west coast. They were on a tour of Vancouver Island, B.C. and Alberta. They visited with Mr. and Mrs. Alf Bell and Heather at Prince Rupert and Mr. and M. Charlie Crawford and Mrs. Maimie Crawford at Kelowna, B.C. Mr. and. Mrs. Jack Armstrong and Mrs. Glen Carter spent Friday to Sunday in Brantford when Mrs. Margaret Taman returned to her home after spending the week with Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong and visited other relatives including Mr. and Mrs. Glen Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Armstrong, Londesboro and M>`.- and Mrs. Fred Wagnor in Auburn. A. hymn was thensung with Hattie Wood at the piano. Nona Pipe gave the scripture reading and Mrs. Beacom led in Drayer The minutes of the June 4 meeting where given by secretary Mrs. Pipe. Correspondance included a thank -you note from Wilmer and Norma Glousher and'a note from funeral director Michael Falconer who was the speaker at the April 23 meeting. He returned a cheque of $15 to be put in the memorial fund. A thank -you note was received from the Family and Children's Services for a donation of $25 given by the UCW. A letter was received from the UCW London Conference on saving the babies of the Third World and also a suggestion to boycott the advertising of all Nestles and Libby's products: A box will be placed to put these coupons in. The treasurer's report was given by Margaret Good, who noted that .the bank balance as of July 31 was $2.,276.38. A .letter was . read concerning an increase in the foster child support, from $12 to $18 a month. The group passed a motion to continue sponsoring the same chid. It was' ann'ounced that. the UCW .group_ will put on a skit at the regional meeting in Varna on October 16. Betty Hulley `reported • that the social committee gave. three Lions suppers, catered to four weddings, five banquets and two, lunches. They will cater to the Blyth Summer Festival on August 24. -- Appeals _Appeals came from the Leprosy Missions of Canada and the Boat People. It was decided to give the Boat People some monetarylupport. The ladies agreed to serve a banquet of ap- preciation for the choir members and the Sunday School staff and it was agreed. to donate $2,000 to the church roof fund. The thankoffering meeting will be held on October 1 and invitations will, be sent to the Burns UCW, Blyth, Brucefield, and the Seaforth United and Presbyterian churches. Addie Husking and Ferne McClure will be the lunch convenors for the meeting. Mrs. Hulley, Margaret Whyte and Margaret Good will hold a homemade bake sale. She is hoping that people, other than WI members, will also contribute recipes and some will also be taken out of old cookbooks. The . group was in- formed that the fail project for the 4-H m hoemaking will be one needlepointing. The leaders will be: Group 1, Mary Buffinga and Hattie Snell; Group 2, Kitty McGregor and Debbie Wallace; Group 3, ,Marjorie Duizer and Judy Datema.
