Two plans for twp. hall
Iby
Audrey Middleton
Two Goderich Town-
ship recreation meetings
were held July 31 and
August 3. At the end of the
second meeting the
Huron County School
Board was telephoned to
learn of their group
reaction to the newly
proposed location -plan
for the township com-
munity hall.
Township reeve Grant
Stirling telephoned the
office of the department
head, Mr. Cochrane
before the end of the
meeting -to hear the
results of their promised
month-long telephone poll
of all the school board
representatives. He
reported. back that they
were all in agreement to
deed land, beside the
Holmesville School to the
township for the location-
purposes
ocationpurposes of the new hall.
We are thus far, dear
reader, with plans. The
wheels of policy and
procedures grind slowly,
almost at a standstill
during summer months.
There is Plan A or Plan
B.
Plan A is a location at
the athletic\ field along
Highway 8 just east of the
newly installed softball
field lights. The 11 acre
field would comprise
space for tennis courts, a
soccer - field, softball
field, picnic area,
parking .for 200 cars and a
community hall, -the
whole site of which the
township- could be ex-
tremely proud in years to
come!
Plan B was proposed by
ane or two who strongly
apposed the "A." plan.
"Bplan is to build the,
new hall containing
better gym facilities,
immediately . beside t
---existing school gym so
that students could move
from one building to the
Dther without stepping
bsvi
outside. j
It is assumed that
rental of the new gym
would be far less than
renting portable
classrooms (which will
be required otherwise).
"B" plan, therefore,
would be financially
compatible for both
school board and town-
ship.
Of course, nothing has
been decided' definitely
until further discussions
and arrangements are set
up.
The July 31 rec meeting
was the regular summer
meeting which dealt with
business on electrical
service at the athletic
field and a desire for
more top soil for same.
An update on revenue and
expenses for 'the sports
field was requested.
Gerry, Ginn gave some
prices he, had gotten on
fencing. for the softball
field, $4,009.20.

The special slo-pitch
challenge, played on
Sunday afternoon at the
Holmesville ball dia,rnrlond
was wori by Art 'liell's
Gun Club, 14-7.
Game officials, Gord
Stock and Doug Norman
made a rule that a fine of
25 cents would be charged
to even,talk to them, so
that kept the game under
control. In the sixth in-
ning the ladies present
had their turn at bat and
when the dust had settled
it wus learned. that the
ladies had hit five runs
for the men.
. The &al winners of the
event however were the
youngsters who now have
enough money to hold a
wiener roast at the end of
the season.
A demonstration was
held at the end of the fifth
inning in throwing clay
pigeons by hand.
In other softball news
in Goderich Township,
th&Midget Boys were put
out of the play-offs on
Monday night when they
lost in a close match to
Varna by 9-8. It was the
third and deciding game
in the series.
The Midget Girls are
one game down in the
best of three finals when
they lost to Varna. The
team was scheduled to
play again on Tuesday
night.
The Pee Wee Boys have
