In 1967, Truscott separated from his wife, retired from the armed forces and moved to an isolated cottage near Carleton Place, about 50 kilometres ' west of Ottawa. He rarely saw anyone except two sons who live in ' Carleton Place and a daughter•in Ottawa. Friends said he came out of his shell toward the end of his life to dri-,;e a school bus and manage a teenage , boys' hockey -team. His son• was released from prison in 1969 after 10 years.
