Weekes, husband's ministry. Erma Cartwright is president of the A.C.W. this year. The group has about 13' members and meets every fourth Thursday in a member's home. Linda Clarke is vice-president, Marion Haggit is treasurer, Florence Daer is secretary anal Lilian Letherland is press reporter. The A.C.W. practices many charitable ac- tivities. It sends clothes to the Indians, and collects and sends used articles of clothing to St. Monica House in Kit- chener, a home for unwed mothers. The A.C.W. also takes turns catering to the Lions Club in Auburn. The A.C.W. has earned a• reputation for itself with tt quilting. The group gets its funds by making and selling beautiful quilts to people in the Aubufn area. The world wide organization brought a branch to Auburn in 1922. Mrs. Herbert Mogridge d Mrs. Charles ughan were the first esidents, and 27 members were enrolled. St. Mark's Anglican Church The Church of England had its beginning in the Auburn area around 1875. The Reverend E.R. Elwood was appointed Archdeacon of Huron and Chaplain to the Lord Bishop. His duties covered a large territory, the parish including the entire Huron Tract. In Man- chester, services were ,!ktofo Nicholson, -,,who were staunch members of the church. The first service in this church was held in 1883. Reverend William Henderson was the minister. He also had Blyth and Belgrave on his circuit. Reverend Dan Sargent, of Blyth is the present minister at St. Mark's Anglican Church. held in Young's schoolhouse. The Reverend J.W. Sine was the first minister. George Fulton donated the land on which St. Mark's Anglican Church was built. In the 1870's, when the church was nearly completed, a high wind blew off the roof. This is a portion of the Auburn Women's Auxilliary out for a work meeting to prepare for the 125th Birthday float. project has been the upkeep of the kitchen in the Community Memorial Hall. When the hall was built in 1961, the ladies furnished it, 'and they still keep it stocked. The Institute published the Tweedsmuir Village history book in 1974, as well as the "Reminiscenses of Auburn" in 1948. The ladies sponsor 4-H Clubs, and provide various scholarships for girls continuing their education. The Women's Institute has about 35 members this year,. President is Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock; first vice is Mrs. Gordon Powell; second vice is Mrs. Hugh Bennett; ,ecretary-treasurer is Mrs. Robert Peck; public relations officer is Mrs: Bud ' Chamney; . and district director is Mrs. Tom Haggit. There are two main projects the ladies are undertaking for the 125th birthday celebrations. They are building a float for the parade, and they are presenting "Auburn as it Was", consisting of old pictures of businesses and people.
