Auburn amalgamated with Knox Presbyterian Chuf in Goderich in 1971, the Auburn Women's Missionary Society kept a separate identity of their own. The WMS goes back almost as far as the first Presbyterian Church in Auburn. ,;n 1918, Miss Mary l'ingland (Mrs. Greerson) was sent by the WMS 'to -be a missionary in Korea. Huron Mens Chapel The group still keeps informed on and supports, missionary work around' the world. There are eight Auburn ladies in the WMS. President is Mrs. Wilfred Sanderson; vice- president is Mrs. Eleanor, Bradnock; treasurer is Mrs. Francis Clark and Lilian Letherland is ,secretary. ,‘ The ladies take a turn catering to the Lions Club in Auburn. Their . meetings include a Bible , study and mission topics. PAGE 21 United Church Women have large group The Women's Missionary Society and the Women's Auxiliary joined together to form the United Church Women on January 1, 1962. Mrs. K. McDougall was the first president of the new organization. Mrs. Donald Haines is the Auburn UCW president this year. Secretary is Mrs. Tom Jardin and the treasurer is Mrs. Oliver Anderson. There are two units within the UCW, boasting about 60 members altogether. The leaders of the two units are Mrs. Jack Armstrong and Mrs. Morris Bean. The ladies keep busy with various activities. The boxes consisted of used clothing, baby layettes, afghans and quilts. The layettes, afghans and quilts were all made by the members of the Unit -d Church Women. The Reverend W.R. Alp continued on as minister in 1929. The United Church bought maroon coloured choir gowns in 1951, while funds were 'raised for the purchase of a Wurlitzer electric organ, installed in 1953. Under the leadership of Reverend Robert 1 -Piltz, an addition was added to the church Sunday school room providing four new classrooms and two washrooms. T61 replace the wood burning fur- nace, a forced air oil burning heating system was installed. The church shed which had served as a shelter for horses and vehicles, and later used as a skating - rink, was demolished in 1964. A parking lot was made in its place.
