Clinton News-Record, 1979-06-28, Page 2a.. PAGE 2—CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, JUNE 28, 1979 Vacation time - here's a particularly apt quote from Al Spong: "Vacation days L -re free from care, - My boss says 'when', my wife says 'where'." In any case when and where grownups vacation matters little - but please remember the young school children who are now on holiday with much more time and op- portunity to be on or near the streets. Drive carefully. + + + Mrs. Muriel Rooth of RR 5, Clinton is enjoying a visit from her sister, Mrs. Cecily Ryall of Dorset, England. In honour of Mrs. Ryall, Mrs. Marg Coombs, her neighbour, entertained at tea last Wednesday, June 20. Guests were Mrs. Mary Haugh, Brucefield, Mrs. Phyllis Harland, Mrs. C. McGee, Mrs. Fred Anderson, Mrs. Edna Baker, Mrs. Barb Oesch, and Mrs. Myrna Hunking. Mrs. Ryall was also entertained by Mary and Percy Brown and by Phyllis and Garnet Harland. She described her Canadian holiday as just wonderful and spoke highly of Clinton hospitality. + + Mr. and Mrs. John Harris and Bruce Harris, all of Calgary and Janet and Jerry Baird of Sarnia visited their mother, Mrs. Verna Harris of James recently and at - the wedding of i Street tended their niece, Marilynne Wise to Wayne McCousland in Wesley - Willis United Church. +++ Mrs. Arabell Bushell of Huron Street, Clinton, is leaving shortly to take up residence in London. Friends and neighbours honoured her at a party on Monday June 18 at the Clinton Community Park. Mrs. Barb Betties read a poem composed by herself - and Mr. Cliff Lobb presented Arabell with a sterling silver maple leaf pin and a gift of money. The London address is 160 Cherryhill Drive, Apt. 817. +++ The calibre of gym- nastics is rising rapidly in today's world. An example of this is Robyn Hicks, daughter of Carl and Barbara Hicks, Clinton. At the unusually young age of seven years, she last week passed her Pre -Bronze and Bronze examinations under The British Association of Teachers of Dancing. The judge, who travelled from Britain, gave her a "highly recommended" in both tests. The Clinton Bowling green was the scene of fun and friendly bowling again last week. On Tuesday, June 19 there were 18 bowlers out and the weather was good. Ladies' high went to Della Slavin, men's high to Dave Colclough. Thursday, June 21 there were 24 bowlers with ladies' high to Norma Ashton, second to Della Slavin, men's high - Bert Gray and second Elmer Murray. On Sunday, June 24 the Clinton ladies held their first tournament at the greens. The weather was a little on the cool side but 12 teams turned out for the competition. The tournament winner was Bert Gray and his par- tner, Mrs. E. Baker of Clinton. Second prize went to Dave Colclough and his partner, Myrtle Vodden. Third were Walter Newcombe and Jean Gray and the consolation prize went to Harry Williams of Goderich and Rosamond Garrett of Clinton. + 4- Perhaps some of Clinton Green-Thumbers and especially members Robyn_isenrolled in the- of- the Fiorticul✓tural- Jo Read School of Dan- cing in London, Ontario.
