Mrs. Eva Thompson who has been receiving treatment in St. Joseph's Hospital, London returned to her home. Mrs. Walker Carlile is a patient in South Huron Hospital, Exeter. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Flynn spent a few days visiting with the latter's brother- in-law and sister Mr. and Mrs. Roy Allison, Toronto. Baptism in Carmel Church Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted Baptism service in Carm alt Presbyterian Church on Sunday baptizing Elisa Marie Masse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Masse; Jamie Harold Neil Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Campbell; Jason Robert Vanstone, Charles Aldon Vanstone, sons of Mrs. Robert Vanstone and the late Robert Vanstone; Steven Anthony Wurm and Matthew Donald Wurm, sons of Mr. and Mrs. C. Wurm. Rev. Knight delivered an inspiring message to the parents and congregation on "Baptism". Flowers were placed in the church in loving memory of the late Mr. and Mrs. Stewart McQueen by their family, also flowers were placed in loving memory of the late Hugh Love and Walker Carlile by their families. The service next Sunday, June 24th will be cancelled as the congregation has been invited to worship with Cromarty Presbyterian Church at their an- niversary service at 11 a.m. The churcc will be closed July 1, 8 and 15 for .51 holidays. Church service will be in Hensall United Church at 11 a.m. Legion Officers Installed The Blyth Ladies Installing Team of the Ladies' Auxiliary visited the Hensall Branch of the Canadian Legion on Friday evening to install the officers of the Auxiliary. Zone Com- mander William Rheil of Blyth was present to install the Legion members. The ladies' auxiliary officers are as follows: president, Beatrice Uyl; first vice-president, Alice Neilands; second vice- president, Hilda Smale; secretary, Donna Allen; treasurer, Mona Cam- pbell; Sgt. -at -Arms, Iva Reid; executive, Joan Beierling, Jean Munn, Vera Smale. Officers for the Legion were: president, Irvin Ferris; ` first vice- president, Garnet Allen; second vice-president, Howard Smale; secretary, Charles Cooper; treasurer, Murray Traquair; Sgt. - at -Arms, Larry Uyl. A social hour followed the installation and refresh- ments were served. Socials Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Shirray and Darlene of Strathroy were recent visitors with the former's mother, Mrs. A. W. Shirray. Several members of the "Three Links" Senior Citizens attended a dinner at Huronview on Tuesday celebrating Senior Citizens' week. Gertrude Beaver visited Morris Beaver, Mrs. Horace Pfaff visited her husband Horace, and also visiting Mr. Pfaff was Mrs. Marylin Major, Georgetown. Visitors with Jim McDougall and Bella Drover were Lloyd and John McDougall and Jack Upshall; Don Rozendal visited his wife Alice; and Clifford Hoggarth visited his wife Dora. Rev. C. Bishop con- ducted church service. The Christian Reformed Ladies entertained the residents with bingo and treats. Men's high bowling score was Neil Regan with a 136 and ladies' Mary Parlmer 93. Mrs. Geiger passes Mrs. Melizza Barbara (Pfile) Geiger passed away in Clinton Public Hospital, June 16 in her 91st year. She was the wife of the late Roland Geiger and mother of Claire W. Geiger, RR2 Zurich, Mrs. Jack (Romayne) McClinchey of Clinton; one brother, Urban Pfile, Zurich; nine grandchildren, ,and 17 great-grandchildren survive. One son, Delbert Geiger predeceased her in 1977 and she was also predeceased by two sisters and one brother. The funeral service was held from the Westlake Funeral Home, Zth-ich, Tuesday, June 19 Vera Gregg gets a deserved pat on the back by Debbie Taylor. Along with the pat, Vera was stamped, noting that she had gone around the Bayfield bike-a- thon route one more time. Vera was one of 64 bikers to peddle around the village 10 times, 20 miles worth, to raise about $3,000 for the new arena. The only problem that Vera encountered during her run was that she seemed to feel considerably older each time she stopped to catch her breath at one of the two check points. (News -Record photo) Plane crash kills husband of Auburn girl Miss Laura Phillips received word last Saturday that the plane crash last week near Toronto involved Howard (Larry) Sly of Kingston. Mr. Sly is the husband of a former Auburn girl, the former Joan Sheppard. She is the daughter of Mrs. Hurst Sheppard now of .Bright's Grove and the late Mr. Sheppard. Mr. Sheppard was bank manager and he and Ibis family lived in the bank apartment about 40 years ago. The sympathy of friends is extended to Joan and her family at this time. Mr. Sly was a land developer and had his own private plane and according to TV news the plane went down with the two occupantsln it. Ladies enjoy trip A number of ladies from this area enjoyed a bus trip to Scott's Villa, Aqua Lake, New York State last weekend and report a most worthwhile trip and excellent en- tertainment. Riley reunion The 32nd Riley Reunion was held at the Com- munity Park, Hensall on June 10th with 59 present. Afternoon reminiscing Les Elliott, left, has seen the postal service go -from horse and buggy delivery to the jet age, as he has worked on and off for the Bayfield Post office for 60 years and still does his rural route each day.
