N., (nee Bremner) graduated on June 8 from the University of Western Ontario, London with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Kathy, who is a graduate of Listowel District Secondary School, and Fanshawe College School of Nursing, Victoria Campus, has accepted a nursing position with University Hospital, London. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Bremner of Ethel. UCW hear guest speaker Thirty-nine members attended a meeting of the afternoon unit of the Ontario Street United Church Women on Tuesday June 5. The ladies assembled in the Church Parlor under the leadership of Gertrude Feagan, who welcomed all present, and read a poem on "Time". Anna McConnell and her group chose as their theme for the worship service "The Year of the Child". Esther Kendall and May Gibson assisted with the devotions and Eva Campbell gave a splendid talk dealing with special programs that are being offered for children in '79, and the caution being taken in the detection of child abuse which is a major concern Under the Welfare Act. Mrs. E. Baker sangtwo solos, "Only God can make a Tree", and "You'll y' never walk alone," accompanied by Lorna Radford at the piano. Evelyn Olde introduced the guest speaker Miss Ida White of Goderich, R.N., who retired after spending 26 years in India in the field of Health, under the United Church in India. She stressed the need for love and help, but not for charity. There are 14 major languages in India, so the lack of communication is a main problem. Doreen Pick gave an interesting account of the weekend for United Church Women held in Westminister College, London, when she and Ruth Jenkins attended as delegates. The theme was "The Spirit of God, Within - Without", and special speakers were Miss Marjory Smith of Calvary United' Church, London, and Miss Marion Ja°okson of First St. Andrews United Church, London. The young people of Calvary United Church presented a splendid musical drama. The roll call revealed that 17 home calls and 10 hospital calls had been made since the last meeting. There will be a Campsite Experience Day held at Camp Menesetung on June 17th. Ladies were reminded of the outdoor church service and picnic for Sunday June 17th. The deadline for those paying bus fare to go to Alma College St. Thomas on August 21st., is drawing to a close. Gertrude Feagan closed the meeting with prayer, and a tasty lunch was served by Verna Harris and her com- mittee.
