The Chessells had reasonably good fishing at Powassan on the weekend, but could have brought home a lot more fish if the bass season had been open. UCW meets The treasurer of Varna UCW reported at the meeting on Thursday evening that $66.25 was raised at the plant auc- tion held at the May meeting. In response to an appeal for help in providing camp ex- perience for children under the supervision of Family and Children's Services, $40 was donated, which is the amount necessary to send one child. Another $40 was voted to the Vacation Bible School at Brucefield. Twenty-three Varna children have registered to attend. A letter was received from Perth -Huron Presbytery asking members to boycott Nestle products because of their ,, aggressive tactics in selling bottle- fed formulas to mothers in developing countries. The result is an increase in deaths among the babies because of mixing it with contaminated water, causing such diseases as gastroen- teritis. Debra Rathwell was asked to arrange for music for the outdoor church service and picnic, which will be on July 29. A devotional service on the theme of "Light" was given by Joan Stephenson and Debra Rathwell. Bernice Reid read a tribute to Fathers. A social half-hour followed the meeting. For Darlene Hayter's graduation, members of her family attended the celebration on the campus lawn, including her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Hayter and her brother Glen and his wife Lois. On Friday evening, Mrs. Laura Keyes was the guest at the graduation of her granddaughter, Brenda Keyes. Brenda graduated from the Medical Secretarial course from Lambton College in Sarnia. Brenda is the daughter of Clayton and Sheila Keyes. Kippen clubs busy by Rena Caldwell Brad Mann and John Anderson attended the Provincial Trapshooting Championship at Hamilton on June 23, where Brad shot in the junior event, scoring a pair of 92's. John scored 98 out of 100 winning the veteran trophy. In the afternoon, John hit another 98 out of 100 and tied for the Vern Thornborrow Trophy but could only win one trophy in each event. In Class A he was runner-up with a score of 196 hits out of 200. Kippen East Women's Institute will meet at the home of Mrs. Wm. McDowell in Seaforth on June 20 at 8:30 p.m. Roll call is a product made with milk as the speaker is • the dairy princess. Lunch convenor is Mrs. Robert Bell.
