The family gathering was held to celebrate family bir- thdays which occurred in June. Mrs. Jay Ball en- tertained several members of the Lioness Club at her home in the Clan Gregor Apartments, following the Lioness meeting on Monday evening. Miss Catherine Westlake visited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Westlake last week. Catherine taken a position at the Central Park Lodge in Kitchener. Congratulations are in order for Gail Grant. She is a graduate nurse who has just graduated with a B.A. in anthropology and sociology from Wilfrid Laurier University. She is the winner of the gold medal and from a choice Huron Centennial School Preschool hour wound up its last session on Wed- nesday, May 30th. Twenty-eight little people between the ages of 2'/2 to 4 received certificates for their attendance and the four -year-olds accepted a preschool graduation diploma. The hour of stories, movies, plays was ended for many by a bus ride home. Have a good summer and remember Preschool Hour starts again next fall. EyYQ,gsp1an picnic The Ever Young Senior Citizen Club met last Thursday evening in the Municipal Building with a fair attendance. Len Carter, first vice, took the meeting. The minutes were read /by Jeanne Lindsay, anal the .treasurer's report was given by the treasurer Dorothy Coxa' Plans were made for the picnic at Goderich on June 26th at 5:30 pm when all members are welcome. Huronview is entertaining us on June 21st for 12:30 lunch.. A minute silence was held in memory of one of our departed members, Laura Kompf. We welcomed George and Florence Brown back again to the meeting. Owing to the resignations of Perc Johnston and Jeanne Lindsay, the presidents chair will be filled by Len Carter and the secretary's chair by Vina Parker. Dorothy Cox gave a lovely resume of her trip 'to Germany France, Switzerland and Holland and also showed some foreign coins and snap shots. A social hour was enjoyed after the (meeting. Auxiliary meet in village The regular Monday meeting of the Clinton Hospital Auxiliary was held at the home of the president, Dawna Westlake. A pot -luck lunch was enjoyed on the Westlake lawn and about 411- members and guests were present. The speaker was Jacqui Lewis of Guelph, Chairman of Region 2, Ontario Hospital Auxiliaries, she was accompanied by her secretary, Catherine Conway. She chose as her subject "What is a volunteer?" and, as is becoming more and more evident in hospital auxiliaries, it isn't only a woman. For this reason, Garden Club plan meeting The inaugural meeting of the new organization will be held on Monday, June 11th at 8 p.m. in the Municipal building. The speaker will be Roy Bennett of Wingham, assistant director, district 8, of the Ontario Horticultural Society. The Garden Club will qualify for the grant from the ministry of agriculture and food if it has a membership of more than 100 at the time of the inaugural meeting. Those interested are urged to take out memberships ($2) previous to the meeting. These are obtainable at Grahams, Lances' and Gammage's stores on the Main Stree. the Auxiliary has dropped the word 'Women's' from its name and the new trend is exemplified by the fact that two male members joined in Bayfield this year. Male members are now joining up in other auxiliaries throughout the province. In the Bayfield membership drive, $125. was collected. Who are the Bayfield ladies? The last four members of the Bayfield Lioness Club have revealed a bit of their past by showing their baby photographs. Last week's faces belonged to, top left, Carol Penhale. Along with raising two children at their RR 2, Bayfield home, Mrs: -Penhale has served as card and flower convenor for three years, since the club's formation. This year she is the Lioness secretary and just recently was made chairlady of the banquest com- mittee for the new Bayfield Community Centre. Top right is a newcomer to the community and the Lioness Club, Ruth George, who has been a resident of Bayfield for less than a year and has been lnvoled in the club only a few months. She is married and has two children. Bottom left, is what Lorraine Fisher looked like at the age of three. Mrs. Fisher may not tell her age now, but she has been married for 34 and a half years and has lived in Bayfield for seven years. She has been a Lioness member since the beginnings of the club and was one of the first directors. Bottom right is the upcoming president 'of the Lioness Club, Judy Huntley. Mrs. Huntley, a charter member is now serving as vice-president and has also held the office of secretary. She came to Bayfield in 1974 from Bramalea. She is married to Robert Huntley and they have one daughter. FORD RETURNING SEAFORTH of sev1•i scholarships has elected to go on to York University to study medical anthropology. Two years ago, Gail successfully convened the annual Pioneer Park Rummage sale. She and her husband Dr. D.J. Grant and their children come to their Bayfield residence from Kit- chener. As a `child Gail often spent holidays in Bayfield with her family. She was the former Gail Paton. The Rev. Alun Thomas of St. Andrews United Church attended the London and District United Church con- ference for three days last week held in Sault St. Marie. Mr. and Mrs. Perc Johnston, Mrs. Grace Duggan, Mrs. Vina Parker, Mrs. Greta Scotchmer, Mrs. Buelah Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Makins spent last weekend at Scotts Oquaga Lake, Deposit, New York. Lioness raise funds Plan bike-a-thon, sell quilt tickets Lioness Club held their regular dinner meeting in St. Andrews United Church Monday evening with 36 members and five visitors present. Each member is to sell four books of tickets on the quilt and afghan to be drawn on September 2nd. Alice Brandon reported for the penny sale to be held at Lions Club Frolic 27th July. The bike-a-thon is scheduled for June 17th. All those taking part are to start between 10 a.m. Scouts and Cubs win trophy again At the Scout Rally at Benmiller Conservation Park last weekend, 11 scouts and 24 cubs from Bayfield won the Huron District Trophy for the second year. About 350 Scouts from a large area extending south to include Ailsa Craig and Grand Bend gathered at Benmiller. Carol Fisher, Cub Leader wishes to give special thanks through the Clinton News -Record to the parents who came and assisted with setting up tents, helping with meals and supervising the boys. Also, she thanks the village and homeowners who made donations to the Scouts and Cubs for their help in the spring clean-up. Scouts will lose their leader, David Renner, who will be moving to Clinton and will welcome suggestions for his successor. The boys will miss David and hope for a new leader who will be popular as he has been. Scouts and Cubs are reminded to be at the Town Hall at 7:45 am on Saturday morning for their trip to the Toronto Zoo. Twain replied, "They would be scarce, sir, almighty scarce!". and 1 p.m. Hours are staggered so those manning, registering and rest areas will not be swamped at one time. Bingos are scheduled for June 15 and 29 and Lillian Turner on behalf of the 1st banquet com- mittee formed at the community centre a few years ago turned the sum of $136.02over to the Lioness specifying that something be bought for the new kitchen. A garage sale will be held at Elane Brandons home on August 18th. Pat Dorion reported a float will be put in the Frolic parade on July 27th. The club will sponsor a bake sale at The Old Homestead Camp on Saturday morn. July 14th. The Bayfield arena booster buttons can now be purchased for 50 cents down from the previous $l. until the remaining buttons are sold. President Carolyn Snell, upon adjournment of meeting gave out awards to the following: "Nothing Award" for the committee whose duties entailed least work the past year accepted by Jan Simons; "the Relief Award" for having completed her term of office last year, went to Ilse Geiminhardt; the "Anxious Award" to Judy Huntly, incoming president; the "Trouble Award" went to the poster- committee comprising Teri Rau and Debbie Taylor; "the Cheesecake Award" to Joan Merner; "the Esther Williams Award" going to Wynn Graham and Mother of the Year Award to Sue Scrimgeour.
