Legion social enjoyed by 60 people

Easter has come and
gone with the weather not
too pleasant, but, the
hearts were joyful for
many of our Comrades as
some homes were filled
with joy with visiting
relatives home for the
weekend to spend the
fruits of Easter with their
loved ones.
Our Legion Social last
Saturday had about 30
couples present to enjoy a
pleasant evening of
dancing to the
Royalaires. To those who
supported the function,
thanks comes from our
Entertainment Chairman
Comrade Harvey Hayter,
who extends his ap-
preciation to his com-
mittee members for
being so loyal throughout
the past year.
Our bingo last Thur-
sday was well attended
and our bingo teams hard
at work swelling our
Blyth plans art workshop
On the weekend of May
4, 5 and 6 the Blyth Centre
for the Arts is presenting
a watercolor workshop
under the direction of two
lively graduates of the
Ontario College of Art,
Michele White and Marie
Charbonneau. Both
young women have had
extensive teaching ex-
perience at both amateur
and professional levels.
Michele White, after
attending the University
of Toronto for two years,
won two Greenshields
scholarships, She con-
tinued as a student at
OCA receiving a Canada
Council grant and the
Forsythe Scholarship for
Women. After
graduation, she spent two
years in Florence, Italy
travelling and studying in
European museums
before returning to a fifth
year at OCA with an
Assistant Fellowship.
Marie cllarbonneau,
grew up on a farm near
Chatham, Ontario. After
graduation from OCA
with an Assistantship,
she spent a year in
Florence, Italy on the off
campus facility of OCA.
She won the Forsythe
Scholarship for Women
and two Ontario Arts
Council Grants.
The weekend workshop
will consist of slides,
demonstrations and
practical applications of
various watercolour
methods, and will in-
terest beginners as well
as more advanced
students and painters.
Art auction gets convener
convenor
Bill Amos, Chairman of
the Board for Huron
Country Playhouse,
Grand Bend, announced
last week that Glen Wood,
the innovative designer'
and developer, has
agreed to be the convener
for the third International
Art Auction to be held at
the Huron Country
Playhouse on Sunday,
July 29.
Wood is the owner and
developer of numerous
commercial properties in
renovated historical
buildings, including the
Talbot Inn, London and
the Festival Square,
Stratford.

He studied interior
design at the prestigious
Parsons School of Design
in New York City, then
began his career with
Simpson's in London.
Ten years „ago he
started his own store,
Tradewinds, selling china
and glassware.
In 1976 his passion for
renovating and restoring
old buildings led him to
buy 'the Belvedere Hotel
in downtown London .and
turn it into the beautiful
Talbot Inn.
Wood's most recent
project is another
renovation of older
buildings in Cambridge,
Ontario.
The International Art
Auction helps to raise
funds for the Huron
Country Playhouse, as
well as give the op-
portunity to the people of
Southwestern Ontario to
purchase valuable works
Playhouse gets grant
The Huron Country
Playhouse at Grand Bend
will carry out its first
Young Canada Works
Program this summer.
Robert McKinley, M.P.
for Huron (and newly
nominated candidate for
Huron -Bruce) notified
the Playhouse last week
that their &rant for
$12,762 has been ap-
proved.
The project entitled,
"Huron Country
Playhouse Youth
Training Program, will
create five jobs for Huron
students between May 7
and, September 1. The
five young people will
present a continuing
program of creative
dramatics for area
children culminating in a
children's show produced
by children; and they will
appear on the main stage
along with the
professional company in
two of the season's
productions.
"Here is an opportunity
for- five theatre arts
enthusiasts to find work
in the theatre," said
James Murphy,
Playhouse Artistic and
Managing Director.
"Applicants for the five
positions are now being
sought," he said.

high singles.
Men's euchre ends off
the season with a banquet -
and presentation of prizes
this Tuesday evening.
The men, will no doubt
miss the evening of
sociability which they
have enjoyed during the
winter months, you're
always welcome to drop
in with a group and enjoy
euchre at your leisure.
