Different passages of the scripture and stories were read by Neil Cartwright, Rev. Stan McDonald, John Lawson, Mark Mitchell, Greg Andrews and Cameron Moon. The service was closed with the Litany for Good Friday and a hymn. The church was packed on Sunday morning for the Easter service. Rev. McDonald led in the service with his sermon and account of the first Easter. The choir sang two songs for Easter. Jim Jamieson and Harry Snell greeted the congregation and the ushers were T 4:ice Pollard, Darrell Shob- brook, Greg Andrews and Dan Lear. The Easter Lilies, decorating the church were placed by the' Burns UCW, the Londesboro UCW and Audrey Thompson. This Sunday the Messengers, the Explorers, Cubs and Scouts will come to the church with their leaders forYouth Sunday. A congregational meeting was called after Sunday's service and it was decided to extend a call to Rev. Robert W. Scott from Milchard to become the pastor of the Londesboro charge beginning July I, 1979. The congregation also gave the official board power to go 'ahead.with the installation Of a new roof on the church and to secure a contract for the same. Harry Lear moved a vote of thanks to the Pastoral Relations Committee. Berean Unit The Berean Unit of the UCW held their meeting at 2 p.m. on April 10 at the home of Addie Hunking. Leader Helen Lawson welcomed all and thanked Mrs. Hunking for the use of her home. After she gave several readings, the worship .was given by Nona Pipe and Ida Durnin. The scripture and meditation were read by Mrs. Hunking. Mrs. Pipe then gave a reading and prayer followed. The roll call, asking for a verse of scripture connected with Easter was answered by 12 members. The minutes of the March meeting were read by the secretary Dora Shobbrook and the correspondence included a thank you note from Vi Burns and Tri Duizer. The school report from the foster child and a letter explaining the increase in the foster child support were read. Tri Duizer gave the birthday pennies. Mrs. Hunking thanked the ladies for the kitchen help at the church skating party and to Mrs. Pipe for preparing the meeting. Margaret Whyte is to clean the brass for May. The May 8 meeting will • be held in the church with the Aim well Unit as guests. Alice Davidson announced the Blyth Crusade on April 29 and 30 and May 1 in the hall at 8 p.m. Rev. Oake from London will speak. The program included the playing of Tennessee Ernie Ford's record, In The Garden. Mrs. Pipe read a poem and Helen Lawson read the Easter Message. After prayer, led by Mrs. Pipe, more Easter music was played. Lunch was then served by Mary Longman and Tri Duizer. WI annual meeting The WI annual meeting and Sunshine Sister Banquet was held on April 11. President Marjorie Duizer welcomed all and opened with the meeting and dinner. A lovely smorgasbord supper was supplied by the UCW and enjoyed by 40 ladies. Darlene Hulley en- ytertained with a step - dance and she was presented with a gift from Helen Lawson. Five members were then taken by surprise when they were honored with a corsage, a life membership pin and a certificate. Marg Anderson presented Hattie Wood with her pin, Elma Jewitt gave her mother Annie Leitch hers, Doreen Carter gave Gladys Armstrong, her mother, the award.Nettie Clarke's presentation, was made by Addie Hunking and Marjorie Duizer made the ---prOelitatioli to Dora Shobbrook. ' Barbara Bosman, and Marjorie Duizer, ac- companied by Genevieve Allen sang a song com- posed by Ruth Shaddick, Bless Them All, Bless Us All. Roll call was then answered by the paying of dues and the Sunshine Sister revealed their names and new ones were drawn for the next year. Irene Bromley and Lena Nesbitt, two new members were in- troduced and welcomed. The four members with perfect attendance were Marjorie Anderson, Mrs. Shobbrook, June Fothergill and Florence Cartwright. The guests, Mrs. Florence Diamond, provincial president from New Hamburg and Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock were introduced by Mrs. Duizer. Mrs. Diamond gave an interesting and in- formative address and Mrs. Duizer thanked her. The March minutes were then read and thank you notes were received from Vi Burns and Isabel Colson. The fall homemaking courses were chosen and it was announced that on June 7 a bus will be travelling to the Erland Lee Home in Stoney Creek . Margaret Taylor can be contacted for tickets. The 4-H Achievement Day will be held in Hullett Central School on May 7 at 7:30 p.m. The 1978 annual meeting and financial statement was read by Marjorie Anderson and the members introduced their guests. Mrs. Allen then gave the auditors report. The standing convenor committee reports were given by Beryl Reid, Jessie Tebbutt, Romana Jamieson, Hattie Wood; public relations, Doreen Carter; cards and flowers, Tri Duizer; Tweedsmuir, Mrs. Lawson. A contest was con- ducted by Mrs. Lawson and the musical parcel was won by Hazel Reid. The election of officers followed with the nominating report given by Addie Hunking. Mrs. Shobbrook gave a report on executive meeting held at Nile. The District annual is to be held on May 28 at Holmesville United Church and registration is at 9:15 a.m. It was moved to pay Mrs. Lawson's membership to Historical society. Mrs. Allen played several of Steven Foster's numbers on the accordion. Hattie Wood expressed a vote of thanks to the president for her work in the past year and she was presented with a gift, a table centre. Mrs. Duizer thanked the WI for the gift and gave special thanks to Margaret Anderson for having the quilt in her home and all who had helped in any way. She then read a poem and closed the meeting. Cub Pack The first Londesboro Cub Pack learned all about caring and grooming for their dogs as well as obedience training when Harriett Shillinglow spoke to the boys and brought Robbie her dog. The keen interest of the boys brought many questions and also stories from them. The meeting was opened by the Yellow Pack with Stephen Kolk- man din lea g the p a ck. The games period was conducted by leader Greg Andrews. Personals Sympathy is extended to Mr. George Smith on the death of his wife Ria on Friday, April 13. Rev. McDonald at- tended the funeral of his uncle Art Hewitt at the Trench Funeral Home in Listowel on. Saturday. His mother Mrs. McDonald returned home with him and will remain at the manse for a number of days due to the damage done to her apartment during Friday evening's storm. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns visited on Sunday with the family of his cousin, the late Mrs. Eva Sawyer at the Paisley Funeral Home. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Jackson, Brian, Ken and Sandra of Ridgetown visited on the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Shobbrook, Janine and David of Ajax spent the weekend with his uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook and visited other relatives. Mrs. Harriett Knox and Lavina returned on April 11 to their home after spending the winter with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Knox in Blyth. Mrs. Florence Cart- wright, John and Claude visited with her mother, Although the songs were over and the class \was ready to leave the stage, these two children were enthralled with the sound of applause and stayed to take their bows.
