PIES FOR Auburn Lions Club. attend pancake supper for monthly meeting CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSGAY, APRIL 12, 1979—PAGE 17 Tee Auburn and District Lions Club held their dinner by attending the Pancake Supper of the United Church Sunday School last Wednesday evening. The meeting followed in the hall and Lion Bud Chamney, president of the Club, was in charge. The raffle was won by Lion Terry Powell. The minutes were read by the secretary, Lion Bob Worsell and adopted by Lion Bill Crawford, seconded by Lion Marinus Bakker. The treasurer, Lion Jim Schneider, gave a complete account of the bank balances in each of the accounts. Lottery tickets are now available from any Lions Club \member. The proceeds are to be used for com- munity work, par- ticularly the ball park lights. The Lions Club is asking everyone to support this fund-raising project. Accessories have been purchased and installed on the Lions wheelchair. This is available to anyone free of charge. The members have decided to purchase two new Lion road signs. The guest speaker for the evening was Lion Casey Casemore of the Wingham Lions Club. Lion Casey was in- troduced by Lion Bill Crawford and thanked and presented with a gift by Lion Bill Robertson. Other guests were present from the Blyth Lions Club. A motion to adjourn was made by Lion Terry Powell, seconded by Lion president Bud Chamney. SOCIAL NEWS Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Baechler of Blyth on the birth of their daughter, Sharon Cynthia on March 21 in Stratford General Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Vagderburgh and Steven of Goderich and Mrs. Harold Baechler went to Elmira last Saturday. Guests with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Archambau;"flick and Marilyn on the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Archambault, Lorri, Brian and Michael of Barrie and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Parker and Sarah of Goderich. Donald Young, ac- companied by Robert Stirling of RR3 Clinton, members of the Huron County Farm and Home Safety Association, at- tended the regional spring workshop held at Currie's Hall, Woodstock last Wednesday. A large crowd was in attendance. Miss Lorrie Cartwright was a patient in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital for a few days on the weekend. Mrs. Allan Craig has received the first lot of ceramic souvenir plates with the Auburn crest and other articles and more T-shirts have been or- dered. Those persons who have already ordered, please pick them up as soon as possible. Winners at the euchre party last Tuesday evening in the Auburn Community Memorial Hall with 10 tables in play were: novelty, Chas. Mills; high lady, Ila Bean; low lady, Elma McFarlane; high man, Stanley Dennis and low man, Ben Hamilton. Guests last Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Jardin and Mrs. Elva Straughan were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bennett of Amherstburg and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Petch of Clarksburg. The annual meeting of the Auburn Women's Institute will be held next Tuesday, April 17 and begins with a smorgasbord luncheon at 12:30. The district president, Mrs. Graham McNee will be the guest and the members are asked to bring their crafts for a display. 4-H NEWS The last meeting of the Auburn I 9-H club was held last Monday evening with the president, Patti McDowell, in charge. The meeting was started by completing the accessory crossword puzzle and was held at the home of Mrs. Donald Cartwright. The 4-H pledge was repeated by all and the minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as read by Nancy Ver- DELICIOUSLY TENDER BUTT OR SHANK PORTION beek. It was announced that the record books have to be handed in by April 18. All members tok part in the accessory match game. The spoons from the previous club were distributed and the girls are selling tickets on their 4-H autographed quilt with proceeds for Auburn's 125th birthday party. The draw is to be made at the quasicen- tennial celebrations on June 29, June 30, July 1 and July 2. The next practise for Achievement Day will be on April 16. The meeting was closed with a quiz. WALKERBURN CLUB The Walkerburn Club held their monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Elliott Lapp with Mrs. Ronald Gross in the chair. She opened the meeting with the poem, Spring Winds, followed special FROZEN LARGE 12.5 oz. TINS by all singing O Canada. Mrs. Elliott Lapp led in prayer. The minutes were accepted as read by Mrs. Ted Hunking. The roll call was answered by giving a donation to the Korean Foster Child. The draw prize was won by Mrs. Ronald Gross. Plans were made for the next meeting to be held at the home of Mrs. Garth McClinchey on April 24 at 8 p.m. The members decided to enter a float in Auburn's 125th birthday parade on June 30. The lunch committee at the next meeting will be in the charge of Mrs. Garth McClinchey and Mrs. Joe Verwey. The afternoon's program was in the charge of Mrs. Elliott Lapp and Mrs. Ted Hunking. Mrs. Lapp showed pictures and Mrs. Hunking gave a contest. Very few pigs were offered. Midgets out On Tuesday, April 3, the Hensall Midget D hockey team lost to Mildmay 7-2 in the Western Ontario finals. Our congratulations to these boys for a fine season and special thanks to Rick Ingram and Dan Crerar for their un- flagging interest in the hoys and time devoted to the team. UCW meets Unit four of Hensall United Church Women met April 5 in the Fellowship Hall with 16 members present. Mrs. James McAllister presided for the meeting. Mrs. George Armstrong gave a beautiful devotional, telling about the life of Peter Marshall. She also read the Easter story from the book, "Wings of Joy". Mrs. Sim Roobal assisted by reading Mark 16. Mrs. Rena Caldwell spoke on "The Yearof the Child". Forty-one visits to sick and shut-ins were made by the members during March. Mrs. Myrtle Sherritt gave a financial report.
