McDonald leaving Londesboro parish, honored by Cubs by Dora Shobbrook The first Londesboro Cub and Scout groups and their fathers sat down to a sumptuous turkey dinner last Tuesday evening for the annual father and son banquet. The dinner was prepared and served by the UCW under the leadership of Mrs. Ken Hulley. Mr. Gordon Shobbrook, vice chairman of the group committee, was master of ceremonies and welcomed all the fathers and their sons. On behalf of the group committee and all the boys who have been Cubs during the last nine years, Mr. Shobbrook presented Cubmaster Stan McDonald with an engraved plaque in ap- preciation of his work with the Cubs, and ex- pressed their regret at his leaving the community to take up his Pastorate in Hensall. Cub Brian Buffinga said the blessing and a toast was proposed to The Queen. Following the meal, Cub Stephen Kennedy thanked the ladies on behalf of the fathers and sons, for the supper. Mr. Shobbrook in- troduced the group committee, consisting of David Overboe as chairman; secretary, Lena Nesbitt; treasurer, Murray Adams, along with Jack Lee and John Radford, member's of the committee. Mr. Shob- brook thanked Ann Adams for her tremen- doys help to the com- mittee and expressed his regret that she was unable to attend. Scoutmaster Overboe introduced his assistant Tom Pollard and Cub - master McDonald' in- troduced his leaders, Greg Andrews, Bruce Lockhart, Murray Howatt, Mark Mitchell and Allen Peal. Cub - master McDonald thanked the assistant leader, David Lear, who, was absent from the banquet. Each cub and scout then introduced their father. Scout Ron Nesbitt proposed a toast to Scouting and this was replied to by Scoutmaster Overboe and Cubmaster McDonald. Following the. toasts, Cubmaster McDonald presented special badges to all the cubs and scouts who entered the poster contest for the Huron - District .Scouts and Scoutmaster Overboe presented Cub Robert Adams with a medal for being the top winner in the Huron District and Cub groups. Those receiving badges were Cubs Steven Bos, Rod Thurlow, Fred Peel, Brian Howatt, Brian Whyte, Robert Radford, Scott Overboe, Brad Westerhout, Robbie McCool, Stephen Duizer, Brian Buffinga, David Whyte and Robert Adams. Cubmaster McDonald along with the other Cub leaders also presented the following badges earned by Cubs: team players badge, Michael Radford, Jeff Vincent, Robert Adams; skating badges, Craig Lockhart, Mark Wallace, Stephen Kennedy, Brian Whyte, Troy Hoggart, Stephen Kolkman, David Whyte, Scott Overboe, Brian Howatt, Brad Millson, Steven Bos, Michael Radford, Jeff Vincent, Stephen Duizer; swim- mers badge, Robert Radford, David Westerhout, Brian White, David Stevenson. The house orderly badge went to Craig Lockhart. The pet keepers badge was given to Andy Riley and Brian Howatt. David Stevenson and David Bos received the gardeners badge and the musicians badge went to David Stevenson, David Whyte and Troy Hoggart. The collectors badge was given to David Stevenson, David Whyte and Troy Hoggart; the collectors badge, Robbie Vincent, Jeff Vincent and Steven Bos; the toymakers badge, Robert Adams and the wood- men's badge, one of the first given out went to David Steenson. Following the presentation of awards, Scoutmaster Overboe, on behalf of the &t<-oup committee, expressed appreciation to Helen Lee for her tremendous support to the groups and for her voluntary babysitting, allowing some leaders to help with the groups. The boys were also reminded of the Cub and Scout Parade on Sunday, April 22 in the Lon- desboro United Church. The Hullett Central School Band will be assisting in the service. At the close of the evening, the Scouts became movie stars, when they presented a home movie of the year's activities. Much appreciation goes to all the leaders, on behalf of the community, for the fine leadership given to the boys' groups. United Church The Palm Sunday service was held on Sunday morning with Margaret Whyte and Bert Lyon welcoming all. The ushers were Rose Mason, Cheryl Lyon, Dianna Shobbrook and Suzanne Tamblyn. Camron Moon, John Lawson and Neil Cart- wright took a trio part in the choir anthem. Ruth Shaddick, Barbara Bosman ani Brenda Radford sang a hymn, accompanied by the organist, Louise McGregor. Rev. Stan McDonald told the children's story and the junior teachers were Rose Mason and Shirley Hulley. Confirmation service There was an excellent attendance of the congregation, relatives and friends to witness the very impressive con- firmation service at the United Church on Sunday evening. The service, conducted by Rev. McDonald, confirmed 14 young people as member' of the cnurcn. inose oeing confirmed were Dianne Christine Bromley, Dorothy Christine Carter, Carol Ann Cartwright, Kevin William Fothergill, Nancy June Fothergill, Susan Marie Millar, Donald Leslie Reid, Christopher Andrew Roberts, Robert John Thompson and Sharon Charlotte Thompson. Personal elders assisting in the con- firmation were Kenneth Pollard, Lorne Hunking, Gordon Shobbrook, Bert Shobbrook, Don Buchanan, Jim Jamieson, Ruthann Penfound, David Lear, Greg Andrews, Nelson McClure, Nick Whyte, Jack Lee, Bert Lyon and Reg Lawson. Rev. McDonald was assisted by Mrs. Margaret Whyte, the clerk of the session. The choir was under the direction of the organist Mrs. Glenn McGregor and Miss Julie Snell sang a solo. The ushers were Karen Durnin, Traci Mitchell, Debbie Westerhout and Judy Carter. Carol Cartwright led in prayer, on behalf of all the candidates. Following the service the UCW entertained the congregation to a reception in the church hall: Photographs were then taken in the sanc- tuary by Harvey McDowell. Explorers The Explorers held their meeting on April 5, with Brenda Nesbitt and Darlene Hulley presenting the emblem. Debbie Preszcator presented the picture and Mrs. Westerhout showed the Explorer girls the pictures of their trip taken in January. The girls found this very interesting, and Lisa Duizer presented Mrs. Westerhout with a gift in appreciation.
