Iasi week's men's euchre night saw Comrade Doug Cameron grin the high score holder e,tth an 83, while the low ,cure was captured by Joe Whelan and the most lune hands winner with six for the evening was Howie Grealis. Comrade Harold Black still holds a commanding lead in the Lone IIand Department with 71, and Howie Grealis still has the slim lead in the high average department with 75.1. Each game now becomes crucial as we near the end of the season. Our bingo night last Thursday was again a success as our bingo teams work so diligently fur our benefit. Winner of the $200 jackpot prize last week was Betty Bell. The dart club was again active • with dart chairman Terry Hollingshead and ladies auxiliary president Annie Sallows winning the high pairs com- petition. The men's single high score of 140 went to Comrade Alden King, while the ladies' single high score was won by Doris Chambers with a score of 108. Zone activities were also in the news last week as Sunday afternoon, ten of our Branch 140 members attended the zone meeting in Blyth chaired by zone com- mander George Camp- bell. Our Comrade. Bill Harris was re-elected as Zone Sports Officer. Our appreciation 4 also extended to our pipe and drum band and color party for an excellent job well done in organizing and supervising the pipe and drum band dance last Saturday night. It was well attended with an extremely well talented disc jockey providing the music. Associate member Bruce Schoenahls was the lucky fellow winning the draw prize, and Comrade Bruce Bartliff was also lucky winning the door prize Playhouse wants actors Huron Country Playhouse Artistic Director, James Murphy, is on the search for local talent. He is hoping to fill several openings this season with talented young performers from the local region. The musical, The Sound of Music, is based on the life story of the Trapp family, who lived in Austria just prior to the Second World War. Ms. Black started in show business at the age ,f of 12 years as a dancer and actress. She has appeared in numerous stage, film and television productions, and was the original "Julie" on the daytime series, The Days of Our Lives. Canoe race set Despite higher than normal water levels, the green light is still on for the fourth annual canoe race down the Maitland River from Auburn to Holmesville this Sunday. The .event, sponsored by the Clinton Kinsmen, is held to raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis, a crip- pling childhood disease. Registration for the race, which has 12 categories from novice, family to expert, gets underway at 9 a.m. at the Auburn Park by the river, and the first race will hear the starters gun at 11 a.m. Breakfast will be available at the site, and following the rape, \ snacks will be available at the Fish and Garde Club in Clinton, where the trophy presentations will also be held.
