Many committees prepare for Auburn's birthday

Sandy Andrews
reported that 18 men had
entered the beard
growing contest and that
he had contacted some
judges.
Allan Craig spoke of the
meeting with CKNX over
advertising and also
about the canoe race on
May 6 sponsored by the
Ministry of Natural
Resources. The Auburn
committee will have the
booth at the finish of the
race at the Patterson
bridge.
A beautiful wool
crocheted afghan was
donated to the 125th
committee by Mrs.
Frances Youngblut of
Georgetown so money
could be raised for the
birthday party. Tickets
will be sold and Sandy
Andrews will be the
convenor.
Elaine Craig spoke of
the souvenirs- silver
spoons, charms, glasses,
plates, coffee mugs, ash
trays and small ceramic
jewel boxes. These are
available now so if
anyone wants to buy,
please visit Elaine soon
as there is a limited
amount ordered.
Other committee
convenors reported and
Jim Schneider gave the
financial statement.
It was announced that
more T-shirts had been
ordered.
A discussion took place
about a heritage plaque
for the village and

The Anglican Church
Women of St, 1N11rk's
Church met for its March
meeting at the 'home of
Mrs. Donald Cartwright
last Thursday afternoon.
Mrs. Cartwright
presided and the meeting
was opened by the
reading of the hymn,
Sinful Sighing to be blest,
followed by all repeating
the General Confession
and the Lord's Prayer.
The scripture lesson,
Genesis first chapter,
was read followed by the
meditation, The Wheel
Chair Walk, taken from
the Living Message with
each paragraph read
'alternately by the
members, This portion of
the meeting was closed
with the hymn, Praise the
Rock of our Salvation.
The business portion of
the meeting was in the
charge of the president,
Mrs. Donald Cartwright.
The minutes were
accepted and the
financial statement was
given by the treasurer,
Mrs. Thomas Haggitt.
An invitation to attend
the United Church
Women's Easter
Thankoffering on April 22
was accepted. Donald
Jardin of Kitchener will
be the guest speaker.
The offering was
received by Mrs. Haggitt
and dedicated with
prayer.
The roll call was an-
swered by a Bible verse
containing the word,
risen.
The meeting was closed
with grace and lunch was
served by Mrs. Cart-
wright assisted by Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt.

The March meeting of
the Knox United Church
Women was held in the
Sunday school room of
the church last Tuesday
afternoon.
Mrs. Gerald McDowell
introduced the guest
speaker of the afternoon,
Mrs. Kathy Pryde of
Huron County's Family
and Children's Services.
She spoke of the
preventive child abuse
program underway in the
county and stated that
there were 47 cases of
child abuse in the county
past year. Being a parent
is a big job, she stated
and then she outlined
verbal abuse, emotional
abuse and sexual abuse.
She stressed that
everyone can help in the
program to assist abused
children • and their
parents. She also showed
interesting slides and
held a question period.
Mrs. Ernest Durnin
thanked Mrs. Pryde and
presented her with a gift.
The president, Mrs.
Donald Haines, took
charge of the business
Invitations to attend
the Easter Thankoffering
at Blyth U.C.W. on April 8
at 8 p.m. and at Clinton on
April 1 at 8 p.m. were
accepted..
Thankyou notes were
read from Mr. and Mrs.
Randy Machan and Scott,
Mrs. Ida Free's family
and Oliver Anderson.
Plans were made for
the Daffodil Tea and bake
sale to be held on May 5.
The tea tables are to be in,
the charge of Mrs.
Maurice Bean and Mrs.
Jack Armstrong and the
bake table in the charge
of Mrs. Gerald McDowell
and Mrs. Orval McPhee.
Plans were made for
the Easter Thankoffering
to be held on April 22 with
Mr. Donald Jardin of
Kitchener as guest
speaker. Easter boxes
will be packed and all
donations are to be left
with Mrs. Beth Lansing.
Mrs. Norman Wight -
man was named to the
Board of Stewards to
replace Mrs. Jack
Arm strong.
The financial
statement was given by
the treasurer, Mrs.
Oliver Anderson.
It was announced that
all bale articles are to be
in by April 29.
The meeting was closed
. with the Benediction and
Grace. Lunch was served
by Mrs. Ernest Durnin
and Mrs. Maurice Bean.
