Lady dies
Bernice C. Hearn
A long-time resident
and active citizen in the
Clinton community,
Bernice Hearn, died in
the Clinton Public
Hospital on March 25,
1979. She was '85 years
old.
Mrs. Hearn, the former
Bernice Rouse, was born
in Toronto on January 6,
1894, a daughter of J.B.
Rouse, a prominent
Hamilton optometrist.
In 1918 she was married
to Dr. Percival Hearn of
Toronto, a Captain in the
Canadian Army. After
living a year in Blyth, Dr.
and Mrs. Hearn and their
son Gordon moved to
Clinton where Dr. Hearn
took over the practice of
Dr. Chas. Thompson,
father of the late Dr. Fred
Thompson of Clinton.
Mrs. Hearn was a very
active member of the
Wesley -Willis United
Church and sang in the
choir for some 25 years.
She was a member of the
WA and the WMS and
served in various offices
of each. In recent years,
she was the secretary of
the Over 50 club.
During the years when
the Clinton Radar School
was in operation, Mrs.
Hearn opened her home
to the families of many
servicemen and also
organized a committee to
seek similar ac-
commodation in the area.
Mrs. Hearn is survived
by her daughters, Mrs.
Jean Mistele of
Burlington and Mrs. Ruth
Tauber of Clinton and two
sons, Gordon of Scar-
borough and William of
Clinton. She is also
survived by 13 grand-
children.
A memorial service
was held at the Wesley -
Willis Church on March
28 with Rev. John
Oestreicher in charge,
assisted by Gary
Barrato, husband of one
of the grandchildren.
Beattie Funeral Home
was in charge of the
arrangements and the
ushers were Garnet
Harland, Ed Grigg, Hal
Hartley and Doug
Coventry.

count, and all the money I
gamble away on lotteries.
I remind her gently
that if she hadn't spent a
cool thousand on gold
chains last summer in
Switzerland, we'd be in
clover. And so it goes.
After a week or two of
this, we have arrived at
an impasse. The sun
keeps shining, something
important, like the
children, crops up, and
we sail happily into a new
year, with the wreck
room in tact: warm,
comfortable, lived-in.
Doesn't cost a nickel. And
you know something?
Nobody cares.
