Many put their skates on for the first time in many years. The prize for the youngest skater went to Christy Scott and the oldest skater was Lloyd Pipe. Mr. Pipe and his wife Nona also took the prize for being the oldest couple skating. The runners-up were Allen and Ruth Shaddick. The largest family on the ice was tied between the Hugh Miller family, the Tielman Westerhouts, the Garnet Wrights and the John Radfords. A draw was made and the prize went to Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Wright. Following the skating, the Londesboro church hall was filled to capacity for a pot luck supper served by the Berean Unit of the UCW. After the meal, Jim Jamieson showed a film and the committee was Tom Pollard, John and Jane Hoggart, Garnet and Margaret Wright, Nelson and Ferne McClure. Everyone felt that the day was a most enjoyable fellowship and it is hoped that the congregation will do this again. United Church Greeting the wor- shippers on Sunday morning was Nelson McClure, and the ushers were David Lear, Ken Pollard, Mark Mitchell and Bob Thompson. During the choir an- them, Barbara Bosman took the solo part. The organist was Louise McGregor and Ruth Shaddick was the choir leader. Rev. Stan McDonald gave the children's story and, the junior teachers for the Sunday School class were Betty Hulley, Joan Mason and Helen Lee. This Sunday Easter Communion will be held. Aimwell Unit The March 19 meeting of the Aimwell Unit of the UCW was held at the manse with Rev. McDonald as the host. President Florence Cartwright welcomed everyone, read a poem and led in prayer. Roll call was answered by 19 m ?nbers who named a favorite hymn. A thank -you note was read from Vi Burns and the group's foster child in Hong Kong also sent a letter. An invitation to attend the Clinton Thank Offering at the Ontario Street United Church on April 1 at 8 p.m. was received, and the group has also been invited to the Blyth Thank Offering service on April 8 at 8 p.m. It was moved by Joan Whyte and Ferne McClure that a ham supper be held on May 23. The meal, which will include baked beans will cost $4 for adults and for children, 6 to 12 years, tickets will be $2. Mrs. Whyte, Kathy McDougall, Florence Cartwright and Brenda Radford will be in charge of the dinner. The ladies decided to visit the shut-ins of the community before the next meeting, giving them a small- remem- brance. Money for cards will be taken from the unit's funds. It was decided that the April meeting program convenor be Mrs. McDougall. Mary Peel and Mrs. Lee will be in charge of 'the lunch committee. It was decided that cookies and squares and coffee be served after the meeting with money from the project to be turned in at the November meeting. The worship service was charged by Mrs. Cartwright who gave a reading and a prayer. The scripture ' was read by Pearl Mason and Mrs. Cartwright followed with a prayer. A film was then shown by Rev. McDonald and a discussion period followed. Rev. McDonald then closed in prayer. News of Hensall by Bertha McGregor Mr. Gerry McClinchey returned to Brantford after spending the week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar McClinchey. Dr. and Mrs. J.C. Goddard returned froma vacation in Florida and visited with Mrs. Margeurite Bonthron in Sebastian. Mr. and Mrs. Elmore Campbell of Toronto were recent visitors with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Perc Campbell. Mrs. Rodger Venner and Debbie returned home after visiting with relatives in Montreal. Mrs. Jessie Armstrong returned home after visiting with her son-in- law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. D.Qtt Flear in Grand Bend,.. The "Three Links" Senior Citizens will be guests at the Exeter Senior Citizens' meeting in the Legion Hall, Exeter April 3 at 7 p.m. Cars will leave the local hall at 6:30 p.m. Church news Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday and presented the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. Mrs. Dorothy Taylor presided at the organ for the service of song. The choir is preparing special music for the Easter season. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Alf. Ross returned home list week after spending several weeks vacationing in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Mock and Julie returned from a pleasant holiday at Myrtle Beach. - Hensall Curling The Hensall Area Curling Club held their annual meeting on .Monday evening which was largely attended. Following the final play-offs, Doug Shirray, president, conducted the meeting. The slate of officers for next year included: president, Ken Clark; first vice president, Grant Jones; second vice president, Dave Ingram; secretary - treasurer, Eric Luther. Jack Bell's team won the Goodwin trophy for high play throughout the year, while Ray Consitt's team won the Middleton trophy for the final play- offs. Sunday 7 pm game winners: zero games, Eric Mansfield's team; one game consolation, John Skea's team; two game winner, Bob Raeburn's team. Sunday 9 pm game winners: zero games, Ken Govers' team; one game consolation, Laird Finlayson's team; two game winner, Jack Peck's team ; third game winner, Harold Cald- well's team. Monday 7 p.m. game winners: zero games Jack Baker's team; one game winner, Walter Denys' team; second game winner, Jack Bell's team. Monday 9 p.m. win- ners : zero games, Howard Scane's team; one game winner, ' Alf Rossas team; two game winner, Grant Jones' team; third game win- ner, Ken Parker; fourth and fifth game winner, Ray Consitt's team. Doug Shirray and Ken Clark presented a cheque to Eric Luther and Carl Mahon for Hensall Arena Fund. This makes a total of $1,500 the curling club has donated to date. A social hour and refreshments concluded the evening. Have regular medical check -taps. • Give Heart Fund Mrs. Hulley conducted a contest on books of the Bible and lunch was served by Ora Bruce and Helen Lawson. Crokinole Party A full house filled the Sunday School rooms last Wednesday for the second crokinole party. Nick Whyte and Jack Tamblyn were in charge of the games and the women teachers looked after the lunch. Winning prizes were: ladies' high, Suzanne Tamblyn; men's high, David Whyte; ladies' low, Brenda Whyte; men's low, Ron Vincent; lucky chair, Helen Kolkman; most twenties, Sandra Westerhout. The Sunday School would like to thank everyone for their tremendous support to make this a successful eV nt. WI Card Party There were eight tables in play on Friday night at the regular WI card party. Marjorie Duizer, Marjorie Anderson and Dora Shobbrook were in charge of the evening. The lucky players included: ladies' high, Viette Hoggart; men; s high, John Riley; ladies' low, Margaret Taylor; men's low, Reg Lawson; lone hands, Stella Adams and Loren Hunking. The next card party will be held on April 6. Cheerio Club Mary Longman was the hostess for the March meeting of the Group III Cheerio Club. Mrs. Longman, Florence Vivian, Myrtle Fair - service and acting president Mrs. Longman welcomed seven mem- bers and two visitors, Helen Lee and Kay Longman, Mary Longman gave a reading for spring and Mrs. Vivian and Mrs. Fairservice also gave readings.'" The minutes of the February meeting and the treasurer's report. were given by the secretary -treasurer Gladys Armstrong. A thank -you note was received from Vi Burns. Roll call was answered with a current event, and a birthday card was signed and sent to Jewel Cowan in Hanover. It was decided to send $10 to Easter Seals. Group IV will be in charge of the April meeting. The draw donated by Mrs. Shob- brook was won by Mrs. Armstrong. Readings were given by Mrs. Vivian, Mary Longman and Mrs. Fairservice. Two con- tests were also -given. The meeting then closed, lunch was served and cards were played. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Wood accompanied their son, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Wood and family of Wingham, to Toronto last Wednesday to visit their daughter, Prof. and Mrs. Bill Andrews in their new home. They also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Richards. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Taylor and children returned home last Wednesday after spen- ding two weeks in Florida visiting friends. Mr. and Mrs. Reg Lawson visited on Satulday with his sister, Mr. and Mrs. E.F. Warren in London. John and Elizabeth returned home with them after spending a couple of days there. Debbie Shaddick of Goderich spent a few days last week with her grandmother Mrs. Joe Shaddick. Mrs. Carl McDonald, Mrs. Chester Earl and Judith spent a ' couple of days last week at the manse with Rev. McDonald. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Radford, Kathy and Kevin spent Sunday to Tuesday in Toronto and a couple of days at -Niagara Palls with Mr. and Mrs. Doug Radford, Dawn and Monica. Bradley Shobbrook of Wingham spent a few days .last week with his uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Shobbrook, Darrell and Diana. Mrs. Ross Millson, Sheryl, Darren, Sarah and John of Woodstock spent last Tuesday night and Wednesday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook. Patricia spent the week with her cousin, Dora Ellerby in Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Jackson, Brian, Ken and Sandra of Ridgetown visited last weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Allen. Brian, Ken and Sandra remained for the week while their parents spent the week in Ottawa. Wayne attended the Farm Show and Gloria visited relatives. Mr. and Mrs. William IJirg of Wroxeter called at the home of their nephew, Rev. McDonald on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Hunking, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Lovett, Mrs. Beth Knox and Mrs. Hazel Watkins enjoyed a bus trip to Kitchener on Saturday night to see the Grand Ole Opry. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Carter and Mr. and Mrs. Allen Shaddick returned this week after a two week vacation in Spain. While there, they stayed at Torrelmobinos in the Mediterranean. They enjoyed several bus tours of other cities and the surrounding countryside. They also spent two days in Tangier, Morocco, going part of the way by boat and seeing Rock of Gibraltar. the While her parents were away, Colleen Carter spent two weeks at the residence at 16 John St., Exeter. She also visited her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs Tom Johnston in London and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hilborn of Thedford. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns last week were Mr. Percy Giesz and Mr. Angus Smith of Tiverton. Mr. and Mrs. Colin Paterson of London visited on Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Shobbrook, Darrell and Diana were Mrs. Allen Bridge, Krista and Sharon of Wingham.
