(Nuys -Record photo) Kippen WI enjoy Vera McNichol's entertaining talk By Rena Caldwell Hear Vera McNichol Kippen East Women's Institute had the great privilege of hearing,Mrs. Vera McNichol of Millbank when they met at the home of Mrs. Vern Alderdice'on March 2L Mrs. McNichol is a commonsense, down-to- earth lady who delights in helping people with all sorts of problems. This is not a 9 to 5 job and is without union wages, but her happiness in her work is her compensation. Mrs. Dave Triebner welcomed the ladies and read the beatitudes of the housewife. Mrs. Harold Parsons gave the treasurer's report and Mrs. Grant MacLean took charge of `the business. Mrs. Harry Caldwell gave the .motto, "He who owns a hobby owns mental refuge". Roll Call was to "Name an article I threw in the dump and wished I hadn't". Mrs. Wm. McDowell gave courtesy remarks and current events. Lunch was served by Mrs. Charles Eyre, Mrs. Campbell Eyre, Mrs. Alderdice and the co -hostess, Mrs. Stewart Pepper. Personals Mr, and Mrs. Gergld, Moffatt and' family holidayed in Phoenix, Arizona during the Spring break. Mr. and Mrs. John McGregor and family Middleton news by Blanche Deeves Church News Sunday morning, the congregation of St. Jame's Middleton went to Trinity Church, Bayfield for the morning service called "Mothering Sunday". After the service, the Simnel cake and coffee were served in the Parish Hall. Next Sunday, Holy Communion will be celebrated in St. James Middleton. Mrs. Estelle Wise and Mrs. Sarah Storey on Church Care. The ladies of the ACW of St. James Middleton wish to thank everyone who took their trip to Grand Ole Opry and to Murphy Bus line and Brian Westbrook for the good m service and for stopping at MacDonalds. Personals May we of the com- munity offer congratulations to Eda Steegstra and Harry Greidanus on their marriage at the Christian Reformed Church, Clinton on Friday evening. May we wish them a long and happy life. Don and Audrey Middleton and family attended the Steegstra- Greidanus wedding and reception. Len and Donna Mills, Edward and Blanche Deeves enjoyed a trip to Chatham and Niagara Falls during the week. The Falls were a beautiful sight -still a lot of large pieces of ice. While there, they enjoyed a trip up the Skylon Tower, 775 feet above the base of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. May we say happy birthday to Ray Dupuis who had a birthday on Sunday. Mrs. Delores Dutot and Mrs. Bessie Hulls have returned home after spending several days in Cornwall with their A children and grand- children. They had a good time and enjoyed the trip. • Visiting friends and relatives 'in the area are Mr. and Mrs. Mel Sim- mons and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Graham Postill and family, all of Calgary. visited in Florida with Mr. and Mrs. Alex McGregor during the Spring break. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. F. Bell have returned fr'gm a winter's vacation in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Gayle Cooper, London, visited recently with 'Mr. and Mrs. Vivan Cooper. Mrs. Don McIntyre, Ilderton, called on Mr. and Mrs. W.L' Mellis during the past week. Rehearsal Supper was given by Mr. and Mrs. Ross Faber on March 23 prior to the wedding of Kevin Faber -and Ltule Campbell. Misses Vicky and Pam Bell spent the Spring break in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Jones and Jeremy, Hillier visited with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones, and Mr. and Mrs. Grant Jones. Mr. Archie Parsons has returned from the hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gemmell have returned from a holiday in the South. Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Timmermans have returned from a winter spent at their home in Florida. Foundation gets $50, 000 It was touch and go for a while, but the Goderich Performing Arts Foundation has leapt over its first financial hurdle. The Goderich Signal - Star reported that within five weeks, $50,000 has been raised, through the support of private in- dividuals, the Sully Foundation and • the Charles Ivey Foundation of Toronto. The money was needed to make the downpayment on the former Polley's Livery Stable, its lot and ad- ioining lot. This was a great ex- perience for the children doing something to help others and they loved it. Thanks goes out to the Sunday School teachers and mothers who provided rides and guidance. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Doug McBeath and family of Windsor visited with his mother, Mrs. McBeath. Mr. and Mrs. Jack MacDonald spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Allan and at- tended Brucefield Church on Sunday. Mrs. Edna Patterson, Mrs. Anna Pearl Eyre and Mr. and Mrs. Cribbon of Bayfield have returned home from a three-month vacation in Florida. Mrs, Mary Haugh is home from the hospital and is convalescing with her daughter, Mrs. Barry Lindon. Stanley Curling Club On Tuesday evening, March 27, the Stanley Curling Club held a very successful fun night. The ice was well filled for two draws with members of the club, spares and new curlers trying for the first time. Many prizes were given out to winners in each draw. A delicious lunch and social hour followed the games. Snowmobile Club The Hully Gully Snowmobile Club had a full house at their annual Spring Dance held at Hully Gully on Saturday, March 24. Fifteen landowners were called to the front and much appreciation was given to them for allowing the trails to go through their property. Members and riders in general were reminded to respect this property and not to be littering the trails. Randy and Audrey Collins accepted a plaque of appreciation for allowing the club to use their facilities for the pancake breakfasts and trail rides.
