PAGE 8A--CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, MARCH 29, 1979
Even though there's still a snowbank behind her, Erma Hartley of North Street
in Clinton was hard at work last Thursday as warm temperatures in the mid
teens lured area homeowners and children out into the street to take advantage
of the first warm days since early last November. However, old man winter
had returned by Monday, dumping nearly 10 cm. of snow on the area. (News -

New weather terms out
The new terms "Severe
Weather Watch" and
"Severe Weather War-
ning" will replace the
familiar "Thunderstorm
Advisories" and
"Warnings" in Ontario
beginning April 1, 1979,
according to George A.
McPhersron, Ontario
Region Director of
Environment Canada's
Atmospheric Environ-
ment Service (AES).
Developed to comply
with the terminology
followed in most of North
America, the new
messages will warn of
dangerous local storms
which occur in Ontario
from spring to fall.
The new "watch" and
"warning" messages will
be used, exclusively to
warn of ,dangerous
weather associated with
thunderstorms, such as
large 'hail, localized
downpours, violent winds
and tornadoes. When
such conditons Ore likely,
to occur, the first
message issued will
normally be a "Severe
Weather Watch." This
will alert residents in the
area affected to watch for
impending severe
weather and means that
there is a high potential
for dangerous local
storms at some later
time. The watch will
usually be issued one to
six hours in advance.
A "Severe Weather
Warning" serves notice
up to one hour in gdvance
that a severe thun-
derstorm' (t)'r tornado is
either imminent in a
particular area, or is
actually occurring.
Details about • the
location, severity and
movement of the storm
will be provided with the
warning.
"Due to the complexity
and rapid development of
thunderstorms" said Mr.
McPherson, "there may
be cases where a tornado
may occur without
warning. However, some
advance notice in the
form of a "watch" will
almost certainly have
been provided.
Mr. McPherson
stressed that in the case
of "Severe Weather
Warnings," peopleshould
take the precautions.
necessary to minimize
the potential for loss of
life, injury and property
damage.
Greenhouse
green lighted
At long last, the
proposed greenhouse for
Kincardine has taken a
positive move.
The Kincardine• News
reported that the test
greenhouse project on a
once -acre site near the
Bruce Nuclear Power
Development (BNPD)
has been approved.
James Auld, Minister
of Energy, announced to
the Ontario Legislature
that the Ontario Energy
Corporation would begin
negotiations with the
shareholders shortly.
The test project will
cost $800,000 and so far
$500,000 has been com-
mitted. Orbe share in the
