Varna busy with events and Dana's return
BY -MARY CHESSELL
A tribute to St.
Patrick's Day was
provided at Friday
night's Orange Lodge
card party with toe -
tapping, hand -clapping
Irish music played by
Mary Broadfoot at the
piano. A big crowd,
enough for 15 tables,
attended.
Fern Baker of Bayfield
won the high score for
ladies, Mildred McAsh
was low. Men's high went
to Bill Rogerson of
Hensall, low to John
Ostrom. Draw prize
winners were cliff Utter
of Bayfield, Bernice Reid
and Darryn and Krista
McAsh. There will be
another card party on the
30th.
Craig McAsh; Brian
and Joan's little boy, had
surgery in Clinton
hospital on Friday and
returned home on
Saturday. We hope he'll
soon be feeling great
again.
Bill and Eleanor
McAsh spent the weekend
with Mr, and Mrs. Arnold
Rathwell of Port Elgin.
Dog returns
Ruby Hill's dog, Dana, -
was featured in a front

page story in the Seaforth
Expositor last week.
Frightened by a gunshot
in January, she had been
seen heading south. Ads
in the Zurich and Exeter
papers brought no
results, .and Gordon and
Ruby assumed she was
dead.
Several weeks after her
disappearance, 'Bev
attended a meeting at
Ken and Joan Campbell's
home near Winthrop, and
there was Dana. She had
arrived a month earlier
and since they had no
dog, they had decided to
keep her. Ruby will be
grateful to have her back,
as she valued her corn

Mack Webster is
getting around a bit on
the leg he broke awhile
ago, now .that he has it in
a short Gast.
Crokinole is a game
that isn't played as much
as in years past, but a
local hostess who en-
tertained a large group of
friends Saturday night
decided it would be a
change from the usual

When she was a young
woman, Wat says, she
walked from Dashwood

still living.
The Bayfield Beavers

to McAsh's sugar bush on
Saturday morning to see
them making maple

behind Tom Rathwell's
beautiful team of
Belgians added en-
joyment to the trip. The
weather was just perfect
for their outing, too.
