The Lioness Club extend their sincere appreciation to all those who turned out to quilt. Mr. and Mrs. Delfie Altman and baby Adam, visited Saturday with her mother, Mrs. Margaret Garrett, sister Diane and brother John. Bayfield Ever Young Club are reminded of their pot -luck dinner • fit noon on Thursday March 29. Jimmy Mackie and Bill Green of London are spending a few days at the Mackie home. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Parker, Dorchester visited Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Parker. Mrs. Eric Earl was in London last week to at- tend the annual dinner meeting of the IODE for Western Ontario and while there was the guest of her daughter Mrs. W. Winstone. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard F. Sturgeon, Jeff and Rollie of Orangeville are spending the winter break at their Village home. Miss Karen Fitzsimons and Mr. Carl Humphries both of London spent the weekend at their respective homes. Mrs. Myrtle Pease and Irvin, London were at the'r home in the Village for the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Diemert and Karen and young friend Noelle Hamilton all of St. Marys were guests Sunday with his parents and brother, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Diemert and Wayne at The Albion Hotel. Karen and Noelle remained for a holiday with her relatives. Mrs. Belle Reid of Varna is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Buelah Smith of the Clan Gregor Apartments. Mrs. Sadie Murney visited last week with her granddaughter Terri Murney in Clinton while her parents holidayed in Florida. Best wishes to Ken Scotchmer, home from major surgery in Victoria Hospital, from his many friends and C.B. friends and acquaintances. Hope to hear you back on the mic real soon. Mr. and Mrs. Rob Irwin and Robbie, London spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. .and Mrs. Eg Walter Erickson, Andrew, Luanne and Lydia. On their return they were accompanied by Andrew who remained for a couple of days. Mrs. Berthena Ham- mond visited for a few days . in Clinton with her sister, AudrPv Flnrinn. Eddie and Dennis. Mr. and Mrs: Gerald Sturgeon and Steven, Cambridge (Preston) were guests for. the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Maude Sturgeon. Hank Deelstra and friend Mary Lynn of Leamington were guests of his father Frank and brother Paul last week. His mother, Allie is presently enjoying a holiday in Holland. Visitors Friday with the E.W. Ericksons were her brother-in-law Gordon Stewart, and Allan McDonald and Bert Elliott, all of the Ripley area. Mrs. Doris McLeod of Kingsville was a guest for the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. McLeod and John. Mrs. Bill Aberhart and her father, Mr. Bob Rowden of Sarnia are enjoying several days at the Aberhart cottage on Bayfield Terrace. They were joined for the weekend by husband Bill, also son Bruce, daughter- in-law Ruth Anne and granddaughter Sarah of Corruna. Mrs. Norma Stewart, Ripley and Mrs. Milvena Erickson spent a couple of days this week in Port Huron, Mich. It's been an excellent year for maple syrup products so far, including the Bayfield Lions Club, who have been collecting sap in Clan Gregor Square, and boiling it down into syrup to be used at their pancake breakfast on May 20. (photo by Milvena Erickson) River breaks, spring's here Congratulations to little Jody Fisher, daughter of Jay and Cathy Fisher and to Margaret Scotchmer, who split the $200 prize offered by the Bayfield Lions Club in the Bayfield River Break-up , contest. The winning time of 29:04 went unsold so the times on either side were declared the winners, those being 20:03 and 20:05. Lion Harry Baker sold the ticket to Jody and Lion Jack Scotchmer sold Trinity ACW needlepoint Trinity Anglican Church Ladies Guild met Tuesday afternoon in the Parish Hall for its regular meeting. President Vera Turner opened the meeting and led in the repeating of the Lords Prayer and Creed. Roll call . was answered by 15 members. The Scripture was read by Fern Baker and a poem was read by Greta Scotchmer. Ruby Fitz- simons reported on cards and flowers sent out to sick and shut-ins while secretary Berthena Hammond gave her report and also read the correspondence. The treasurer's report was given by Lorna Merner. Two visitors, Belle Reid of Varna and Gayle King of Blyth were welcomed as well as two young guests, Mark Johnston and Matthew King. Mrs. King showed some lovely pieces of needlepoint she had,done and offered to. teach anyone who is interested in learning. She needs 5 persons for each class which requires only two afternoons ter,r-n There is no -charge-for these classes and anyone wishing to learn is asked to • call Mrs. ,King's mother, Mrs. Robert Turner at 565-2814. Hostesses Berthena Hammond, Greta Scotch - mer and Buelah - Smith served a lovely lunch. Margaret Larson will be hostess for ' the April meeting in the Parish Hal l St. Pat honored The Irish and "the ones that wish they were" turned out in full force to honour the patron Saint of Ireland at the annual Lioness sponsored St. Patrick's Dance in the Paul Bunyan rec centre Saturday night. All reported a most en- joyable evening. Lioness president Carolyn Snell said no figures of proceeds were available at time of writing, but all proceeds from the dance and a schedule share -the - wealth bingo upcoming r rigay evening to be held in the Town Hall as always will go to assist in the construction of the arena. She asks that everyone possible please turn out and help make the bingo a success. The more that attend, the bigger the "pot" for the winners and' for the arena. The Saturday afternoon movie has been cancelled for this week because of a delay in receiving the film. The next schedule "h moyie will be on Saturday afternoon, March 31 SURPRISE YOURSELF! The maple trees in Clan Gregor Square are being very kind to the Lions Club by yielding a goodly amount of sap with a reportedly heavier sugar content than any sugar bush in the area. Already 22 gallons of maple syrup has been realized, but the Lions are striving for double\ that amount to feed the hungry at their annual Pancake Break- fast scheduled for Sun- day, May 20. Lion Eric Earl said that this past Monday was a poor day for sap. "What we need are frosty nights and sunny days to make the sap run," he said. Proceeds from the River Break-up contest and the Pancake Breakfast will go to the arena fund. Another Arena Fund- raising project is a draw on a roto -tiller, donated by Lions president John Boyes; „a. picnic table, donated by Phil Gemeinhardt and dinner for four, compliments of The Albion Hotel. Tickets are now on sale for these prizes with the draw to take place at the Pancake Breakfast. u Anglican news Canon F.H. Paull conducted Sunday morning services in Trinity Anglican Church in the absence of the Rector, Rev. William Bennett, Doris Hunter read the lesson. Special joint service will be held Sunday next (March 25) for the entire Parish in honour of Mothering Sunday in Trinity Church.. After the service there will be the traditional Simnel cake and coffee served in the Parish Hall. An invitation is ex- tended to everyone to attend Wednesday morning services during Lent. ABC club play bridge in ,*d of hospiP1 The girls of the ABC Club held a Bridge game at the home of Ruby Uniac in aid of the Clinton Hospital Auxiliary. High $core went to Jeanne Lindsay and low score to Ag Caylneron. Hidden score was won by Ruth Makin§.' A dainty St. Patricks lunch was served to the 14 playeri by gurney Walden and Ruby IJntac. Middleton news by Blanche Deeves Church News Morning prayer was held in St. James Anglican Church on Sunday. Len Mills of CFB Shilo, Manitoba read the lesson, Edward Deeves and Len Mills received the offering and Rev. George Youmatoff was in charge of the service. We were sorry to hear that our minister is still in St. Joseph's Hospital, London and do pray for him for a speedy recovery. Please take note of the service for next Sunday. Just as we did last year, we are asked to make this a Parochial event. After the service there will be coffee and the traditional Simnel cake served in the Parish Hall. In the ab- sence of the minister, let's make this a real event. This special service for the entire parish for Mothering Sunday at Trinity Church, Bayfield.
