- Some days after, when he was ready to
O ship, Hefferman went to the field and drove
to Brucefield station what cattle he suppos-
ed to be his own. They were put in the
car, the door sealed and everything was all
ready for shipment. Shortly afterwards
along comes Mr. Reith, who lays claim to a
couple of the cattle, besides- stating that
another -in the drove belonged to one Stelck

toki Reith to point out and take away his
property.. This Reith refused to do, as we 1

characterized that of 1887—more especially
the last two months. The last to record, is'
the burglarizing of B. S. O'N.eil's bank,
which- occurred on - Monday night last.
From the indications it would appear that
the modus operandi of the perpetrators was
very much in aceordance with that of pro-
fessionals. They gained an entrance at the
rear of the building, by cutting, out a witn-
dow par,e, then withdrawing the fastening
and raising the window. Thus securing an
entrance, , they, presumably, fastened the
doors and commenced operations. The door
of the'vault, which is a heavy one, was dril-
led to the lock, and then a pund inserted
and the lock inside knocked off. Their lab-
or was not yet ended. There stood. inside
the vault a comparatively small burglar
proof safe, which would test the capabilities
of the villiana. The safe is well construct-
ed, the Material in the door being of the
first quality steel, and made in three plates
of different grades. A fair sized hole was
drilla. through a couple of platee, but upon
touching the third, the drill, being softer
than the steel plate,,brolte in insertion made,
where it was found next day. Being thlis
sterile in their effort a to obtain $1.8001,
Whieh the safe contained, they abandoned
their job and left the premiaes, as has been

without any indnied revvarcl for their labors.
