Clinton News-Record, 1979-03-15, Page 13For the first time in Hullett Township's history, the clerk's office will be located in a building other than the clerk's home as Clerk Clare Vincent and his staff began moving this week into the new township offices and public works building, half -mile east of Londesboro. The road crews -have been using the new building since early February, and a grand opening is planned for later this spring. (News - Record photo) Hullett accepts gravel tender At their regular meeting on March 5 Hullett Council opened tenders for 18,000 yards of gravel. The application of Radford Construction was accepted to supply the gravel at $1.85 per yard. + + + Council instructed Clerk Clare Vincent to send a • letter of ap- preciation to Keith Allen for his participation on the recreation com- mittee, also to former councillor Greg Brandon • for his participation in the past. + ++ A motion was passed moting that council has no objections with the Ministry of Tran- sportation and Com- munication regarding the resurfacing of Road 21 as it pertains to Terry Taylor's gravel pit. The motion noted that any roads involved should be left in good condition. + ++ Morgan Mobile Homes will be allowed to move 14 foot wide loads on the township roads with permission to be granted by the road superin- tendent. +++ Council will meet with Conservation Officer Blake Evans on Monday, April 9 at -9:30 p.m. Also at the next regular council meeting on April 9 the affected owned on the Veenstra Branch A Drain will be invited. Possible im- provements will be discussed. +++ The property owners on the Murray -Lamb Drain will be .notified of the township's decision not to do any work on the drain on any of the properties above Lawrence Taylor. They will be -asked to meet with council on April 9 at 8 p.m. to decide what work is needed. +++ Council accepted a drain application from Frank Szusz for a cleanout on • the Nesbitt Drain and refer it to the drainage inspector. + + + A motion was passed recommending the severence application on lot 36, concession 10. The owners are to have a written agreerrr nt, on the line fences. + + + Tile drain loan' com- pletion certificates were accepted in two motions. Clerk Vincent will prepare the necessary bylaws. The total amount of all the loans is $20,500.00. + -F+ Two bylaws to impose special annual drainage rates upon lands in respect of which money is borrowed under the Tile Drainage Act, 1971, were read three tithes and finally passed. +++ Clerk Vincent will notify R. S. Cummings that three people plan to attend the Economic Development Seminar. One passenger hurt hz singlecar crash. One passenger, Cindy Cluff, 16, of Bayfield received minor injuries and five other people in the car were uninjured in a Friday night collision with a tree on County Road 13. Debra Talbot, 18, of Bayfield was driving on Road 13, east on Con- cession 9-10 of Goderich Township, when she lost control of the vehicle on the slushy roads, went into the ditch and hit a tree. MARCH 15.1979—PAGE 13 Happenings from Hullett Bike safety assembly On March 5, the Hullett pupils had an assembly on Bike Safety. There was also a test and film for the pupils. Ccnst. Wilson was also there to • answer questions after the film. The pupils enjoyed it very much and learned a great deal. Shane movie Op . Friday, March 9, the grade 7 class went to Seaforth Public School to see the movie "Shane". The teachers thought it appropriate because the pupils were studying "Shane" in literature. Each pupil was asked to bring 50c for ad- mission. The movie was enjoyed very much. School bus safety On Wednesday, March 7, Constable Wilson came to our school and talked about school bus safety. The assembly was divided into two parts. For the first part of the asser'pbly, each class separately spent a half hour in the bus where Constable Wilson showed different safety devices such as an axe, a' first aid kit and the fire ex- ' tinguisher. He also ex- plained, where each of these things should be placed and used. In the gym, Constable Wilson showed a film on bus safety and also passed out sheets telling what to do in an emergency. The assembly was very in- teresting and showed us what we should do in case of emergency on a bus. Housing manager resigns from county position John Lyndon, Goderich* manager of the Huron County Housing Authority, resigned- from that position last week. Lyndon submitted his resignation to the. county housing authority ef- fective immediately. He said Wednesday that he was "fed up" with everything in the job and did not want to comment on some of him reasons. He said he had been considering the move for quite awhile and just decided after a holiday to make the decision. The manager said he was tired of the bureaucracy of the job. He also visited Mr. and Mrs. Orville. Newby at Fort Pines as well as a number of the members of our com- munity and congregation. Arriving home' -• on March 10 were Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Mitchell, Tracie, Mark and 1t Edward Riley, following a two • week vacation at Fort Myers Beach and Miami, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Don Plant, Sandy, Donald, David and Tricia and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Allen and Paula returned home. Mr. and Mrs. John Bain of Stratford spent the pasttwo weeks at the home of their daughter Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Mitchell. Rev. McDonald was in Listowel on Thursday, attending the funeral of Melvin Marks, a friend of the family. Mrs. Elizabeth Turner--. of Vancouver visited her cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pipe last week. Congratulations to Mrs. Myrtle Fairservice on her 84th birthday on March 6, when she en- tertained some friends to a card party. Sunday visitors with Mrs. Florence Cart- wright, John and Claude, were her mother, Mrs. Mae Rinn of Belgrave and brother Murray Rinn of Kitchener, all celebrating Florence's birthday. Mrs. Bob Burns visited on Wednesday with his brother Harry in the KIncardine Hospital. He also visited with Mrs. Burns on Thursday and Sunday in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Friday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Shobbrook were Mrs. Ron Ellerby and Kennie Colquhoun of Clinton. Mrs. Bob Thompson spent last week with grandchildren Robbie and Jennifer Laurie of Kitchener. Their parents were skiing in Quebec.
