Mr, E.G. Hogarth and Elaine Baynham visited with Mr. Hogarth's wife Dora Hogarth, Mrs. Hazel Snell visited Louise Mitchell and Linda Oesch visited her father Pat Oesch. Mrs. Hoelscher and Mrs. Nell Kendrick were visited by Elizabeth Varley. Joan Betterridge and Violet Bishop visited Irene Kalbfleisch. Sunday was "Open House" when Mr. and Mrs. Pat Oesch of Zurich celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. Oesch has been a resident for several months. Eighty-seven guests signed the guest book. Mrs. Oesch wore a rose corsage and Mr. Oesch a rose boutonniere. Cake, tea and coffee were served. Mrs. Eric Luther conducted church service on Tuesday with Louise Mitchell at the piano. The Chiselhurst Ladies en- tertained the residents on Monday with bingo and treats. Personals Mr. and Mrs. William Rogerson returned home on Saturday after spending the past month in Florida. Miss M. Swan, Mrs. Ham Brucefield and Wes Ham, Huntsville were recent visitors with Mrs. Edgar Munn. Mrs. Dorothy Brady of Exeter was a recent b.isitor -with Mrs. Bertha MacGregor. The C.P.T. Committee of .the IOOF and Rebekah Lodggs are holding a Euchre party in the local hall on Friday March 9th. Everyone is welcome. The "Three Links" Senior citizens will meet on Tuesday March 13th for their regular meeting. An interesting program is being arranged for this meeting. Plan to attend. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Parker & Mr. Elgin Rowcliffe are the en- tertainment committee and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Horton and Mrs. Annie Reid are the social rnmmittee. Mrs. Ted Roberts returned to her home after surgery in St. Joseph's Hospital, London. Mr. Tom Kelly, ad- ministration manager of the Bank of Montreal has returned to the staff after two weeks' vacation. Mrs. Herb Stretton spent a few days in London visiting with her sister Mrs. Margaret McFarlane and sons. World Day of Prayer The World day of prayer service was held in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Friday with the president of the WMS, Mrs. Harvey Hyde presiding and welcomed those attending. Spiritual Growth and voices of Africa were the theme of the program. Mrs. Hyde opened with the meditation and prayer. The hymn Kum Be Yah was sung and Mrs. H. Parker and Mrs. Jack Brintnell of Chiselhurst- United church read Scriptures and Responsive reading followed by prayer. Mrs. Harry Moir and Mrs. Don -Volland of the Arnold Circle evening Auxiliary read Scriptures and led in prayer while Mrs. Audrey Christie of the Hensall United Church read scripture passages and introduced the guest speaker Rev. T. Garnet Husser who gave an outstanding message on the growth in Knowledge, Growth In Faith, Growth in Hope and Growth in Love. -Responsive readings were led by members from Hensall United Church • namely Mrs. Grace Drummond, Mrs. Rodger Venner, Mrs. Ian McAllister, Mrs. Ron Nock and Mrs. Ger- stenkorn. Mrs. Malcom Dougall and Mrs. Edith Bell favoured with a piano duets Mrs. Hyde expressed thanks to Rev. Russer and all who took part. The meeting concluded with No food for Clintonians At their monthly meeting on March 1 the Clintonian Senior Citizens agreed that at future meetings they would only have a cup of tea or coffee, without the usual accompanying luncheon. Those looking . after the Dutch Auctions will make the refreshments. President Pearl Cummings opened the meeting, attended by 13 members. Mrs. Glazier won the 'mystery prize and since George and Irene's 50th anniversary was on March 5, a set of china salt and -pepper shakers was pre§ented to them. For the program, Viola Lampman gave two readings. The next meeting will be held on April 5 at the town hall. Lue Falconer and Mame Glazier are to bring the articles for the Dutch Auction. The meeting closed with a few games of euchre being played and lunch served by the social committee. Couple wed CORRAN-GILBERT The wedding of Anthony Corran and Annette Gilbert, Huron Street, Clinton took place in Goderich on Thursday, March 1 at 9:30 •a.m. Following the ceremony, the wedding dinner was held at the Elm Haven. Carl Boon was the best man and maid of honour was Judy Dalrymple. prayer • and the Lord's Prayer in unison. +++ Rev. Kenneth Knight conducted the service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday. The sermon vas "The Testing of Jesus" and Mrs. Robert Taylor played the piano. The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be celebrated at the regular hour of worship on Sunday March 25th. A congregational pot luck supper and crokinole social is planned for Friday March 16th at 6 p.m. United News Rev. T. Garnet Husser conducted Communion Service in Hensall United Church on Sunday. The choir sang the anthem "0 Come let Us Sing Unto the Lord" under the direction of Mrs. Marianne McCaffrey with Dr. Ralph Topp ac- companying at the organ. y 4. A quick thaw, combined with heavy rains over the weekend, flooded many fields and roads in the area, as the water couldn't soak through the ground, frozen in some places to a depth of five feet. Public speaking Contest The Hensall Legion Public Speaking Contest was held in the Legion Hall, Hensall op Thur- sday evenin,g with 24 contestants and around 100 parents and friends atte. Grant McClin.cheynding, president of the Legion wak,Master of Ceremonies - and presented the following winners with their trophies, Junior Division: third runner-up, Christine McAdams; second runner-up, Tammy Durand; first Kelly Schroeder. Senior Division; third runner- up, Janet Regier; second runner-up Tracey Ducharme; first, Nancy Overholt Kellv Schroeder and Nancy Overholt advanced to the Zone Public Speaking in Brussels Legion Hall on Friday evening. Do -nuts and coffee were served by the Ladies' Auxiliary at the close. 4-H Club II meet The Hensall 4-H Club II met at the home of Mrs. Fuss and opened the meeting by repeating the pledge. The members read alternately about hats, selections and care of hats.
