United Church
Mr. Don Darrell of
Clinton was the guest
minister at Londesboro
United on Sunday mor-
ning, He spoke on the
value of a prayer and also
gave the children's story.
Bob Hunking greeted
the congregation into the
church while Don Reid,
Chris Roberts, Kevin
Tamblyn and Kevin
Fothergill ushered the
people into the church.
Following the call to
worship, a gospel hymn
was sung, with Louise
McGregor at the organ
and Ruth Shaddick
leading the choir.
Jean Kennedy was the
junior congregation
teacher. The flowers on
the memorian stand were
placed in loving memory
of Lenore Whyte, who
died on March 4, 1978.
The Messengers, with
their leader Brenda
Radford, met in the
Sunday School rooms
during church.
Day of Prayer
The World Day of
Prayer service was held
on Friday, March 2.
Helen Lawson
welcomed all and led in
the prepared service on
Spiritual Growth.
The scriptures were
read by Addie Hunking,
June Fothergill, and
Helen Alexander, and a
prayer was given by
Hattie Wood. Barbara
Bosman then sang a solo
with Gail Lear at the
piano.
The voices were read
by Elizabeth Lawson,
Betty Hulley, Dora
Shobbrook along with
Heather and Nancy
Fothergill. The offering
was received by
Margaret Good.
The speaker was Alice.
Davidson who led in
prayer. Mrs. Lear
thanked Mrs. ,Davidson
for her talk and presented
her with a gift.
Explorers
-
The Explorer girls met
with their. leader
Margaret Wright and
Jane Hoggarth for a
toboggan party on
February 24 at the Burn's
Cemetery Hill.
Afterwards, they
returned to the church for
hot dogs and hot
chocolate, prepared by
Lena Nesbitt and Irene
Bromley. The warm food
and drink was ap-
preciated by the girls and
their leaders.
On March 1 the group
met with 19 members
present. Cheryl Hulley
and Brenda Nesbitt
explained the Explorer
Emblem.
Carolyn Dougherty
conducted the World Day
of Prayer service which
was called Growing
Together.
The ceremony of Stars
was held and all the girls
received their second
star for the Explorer
year. Games were then
played and the meeting
closed in prayer and
song.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. Colin
Paterson of London
visited bn Sunday with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Burns. Mrs. Burns
returned home with them
and was admitted to St.
Joseph's. Hospital in
London on Monday for
surgery on Tuesday. She
is wished a speedy
recovery.
Congratulations to Mrs.
Joyce Kennedy on the
arrival of a new grand-
son, born February 26 in
the Clinton hospital to
Mr. and Mrs. Don Bartliff
from Clinton.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob
Thompson visited on
Tuesday with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs.
William Hamilton of
Moorefield.
Weekend visitors with
Mr. and Mrs. Bert
Shobbrook on Saturday
were her brother Ray
Vodden of Bayfield, who
spent the winter months
in Camptown, Florida.
He spent Sunday with his
sister, Mr.. and Mrs. Perc
Gibbings of Clinton.
The WI Family Health
meeting will be held on
March 14 at 8 p.m. The
roll call will ask for a
favor to home remedy
