• Sure to Bring Showers!
Regardless of the
weather, wherever there's a
bride-to-be, there are show-
ers. But, .they're the best
kind ... gift showers! If
you're planning a shower for
a happy young lady, here are
some ideas for making it in-
teresting and enjoyable for
those attending and for the
guest of honor.
A kitchen shower is al-
ways fun, and so practical.
Find out beforehand what
colors the bride plans to use
in her kitchen and mention
it in your invitation, as well
as any preference as to pans,
etc. Create a centerpiece of
wooden spoons, bread
sticks, ladles and napkins
and present the bride-to-be
with it at the end of her
shower.
If the future bride has al-
ready had a kitchen shower,
why not try something dif-
ferent, like a bath shower?
Today's baths are so imagi-
native and sumptuous, you
and your guests will have no
difficulty at all in coming up
with great gift ideas. Aside
from towels, there are many
accessories designed to
Dinner for Two,
On Coffee Table
Brides-to-be, the cocktail
table in your first apart-
ment may be the nearest
thing you'll have to a dining
table 4 If so, count yourself
lucky. It's especially cozy
and romantic to pull up a
pair of cushions or chairs
and dine by candlelight close
together.
The right size for two, a
cocktail table is easy to set
prettily because it is small
and because it usually has an
attractive surface finish. Let
it show!
For dinner, fit a frothy
centerpiece of baby's breath
'in a lacy wicker basket. It
will last a welcome while
and really sparkle on the
night he brings you flowers.
Let him light the candles
and all you'll need will be
your own exciting casserole.
A change of mood, of
course, for breakfast, means
posies in the egg cups and
toast or rolls in the wicker
basket. Use a seashell for
jelly. Splash a bright yellow
runner or square across the
center or ends of the table,
and plug in the new electric
coffee pot or waffle iron
right in the living room!
For Saturday lunch or
Sunday brunch, go Euro-
pean. A jug of wine, a loaf of
bread and cheese are the
makings of a fine Continen-
tal meal. Spread the table
picnic -style and sit right on
the floor, or on pillows if
you prefer.

make bathrooms luxurious.
Scales, soap dishes, and
hampers are not the only
choices. Plants, prints, eta-
geres, and ornamental towel
rings are other possibilities,
in addition to such items as
shower massage attach-
ments and electric tooth-
brushes! Or, if the lady be-
ing honored is "into" plants,
why not have areen thumb
shower? This would be par-
ticularly appropriate if she'll
be moving into a house from
an apartment, after mar-
riage. Aside from plants,
you can gift her with flower
pots galore, (or even bask-
ets for housing her plants)
plus all the tools of the gar-
dening trade. Put the punch
bowl in a basket, and put
serving glasses in small plas-
tic flower pots (add straws
to sip with) for a green -
thumb atmosphere.
Whatever way you de-
cide to shower the bride-to-
be, with a traditional or a
"different" kind of shower,
you can be sure she'll be de-
lighted with your thought-
fulness.
Wedding Customs
The practice of giving the
bride away is not absolutely
necessary in a wedding .. .
however, it is a custom of
long-standing.
