Mirror, Mirror
A VeryOrigina
Reflect on this if you're
hoping to give or get a cher-
ished gift this wedding sea-
son: yoy just can't have too
many mirrors!
A handsomely framed
mirror is certainly an origi-
nal wedding gift, and yet it's
as useful as a toaster and
more decorative than an ex-
pensive tea service.
Newlyweds hanging that
mirror will soon find out
that it's an item with a
magic all its own. It'll dou-
ble the beauty of a bouquet
or art object put in front of
it, and it'll bring extra di-
mension, space and light to
a room.
Giving a mirror to newly-
weds is a tradition steeped in
history, say the Binswanger
Mirror experts. Old World
archives prove that kings
and queens — and anybody
else who could afford it —
custom -ordered mirrors for
especially favored bridal
couples. And, the mirrors
were so precious that they
were entered in property
registers, right along with
fabled jewelry.
Today's mirrors won't set
you back a fortune, but in
decorating value they're still
worth a king's ransom.
But, choosing the right
framed mirror is impor-
tant, of course. You obvi-
ousl tdon t'g've_a wildly or-
nate, baroge mirror to
newlyweds who like con-
temporary styles. But, on
the other hand, young cou-
ples do change taste over the
years, so a transitional mir-
ror might be better than a
purely contemporary one.
To help you choose the
right framed mirror for this
season's weddings, Bins-
wanger offers this guide:
• For colonial rooms,
choose simplemirrors with
wood or gold metal frarnes.
Round, oval or square
shapes are best.
• If the newlyweds are into
collecting formal tradition-
al furniture, go with an or-
namental shape in a gold
finish.
• Bamboo -framed, bas-
ket weave - matted mirrors
are terrific for today's
natural look. They'll go well
with the wicker and rattan
furnishings favored by so
many young couples, and
when they graduate to more
formal..furnishings, the mir-
ror can move to a bedroom
or bath.
• The free-standing Che-
val mirror is a wedding gift
to be treasured by any cou-
ple, regardless of deco-
rating taste. Available in
gold or wood finishes, it's
great for foyers as well as
for bedrooms.
• Oriental styles are very
transitional. They suit any
decor — from contempo-
rary purity to Chippendale
formality.
• For strictly contempo-
rary buffs, there are
chrome -framed and diag-
onal,- multi -beveled ver-
sions ---
Then farewell care, and
farewell woe,
I will no longer pine;
For I'll believe I have her
heart
As long as she has mine.
—Sir John Suckling,
(1609-1642)

ADVICE TO NEW BRIDES: Lush, thirsty, cotton towels are a good investment. More and more consumers are'asking for
100% cotton bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, and bathsheets - the popular, new super -size for drying luxury.
All -cotton is not only absorbent, it has the best combination of qualities for drying, beauty, softness and durability,
even after countless washings. Thai's what makes all -cotton towels such good values. When -buying bath towels, here
are some tips from Cotton Incorporated: 100% cotton terry provides the greatest absorbency and durability ... more
terry cloth loops mean greater drying power ... heavier, thicker towels dry better and last longer than thinner ones ..
although a heavier, thicker, alt -cotton towel may initially be more expensive, this cost will be more than offset by a
longer, more satisfying use-life.t
