Seaforth played host to the McKinley Chicken Bonspiel for the first time last Saturday and it was enjoyed by all par- ticipants. Overall winner of the day was the Seaforth entry skipped by Ken Moore, with Dar Bannerman, Ken Smith and Ray Hutchinson. Second prize went to the Lyle Yost rink from Millbank. The foursome of Richard McKinley, Danny and Randy Edde and Earle Flynn took the consolation. On Wednesday, February 21 two ladies teams travelled to Exeter Ramblings from the races... • from page b • February 20 for owner Jim Riehl of Goderich. Robert Jerry was third with Ima Gene Jerry for H. O. (Bud) Jerry of Goderich on February 19 at London. Friday night at the same track, Benmiller Sammy, owned by Lois and Verdun Vanstone of Benmiller had a fourth with the latter up. Shar Mel, owned by Larry and Ray Jeffrey of Goderich was third for trainer - driver Randy McLean. Jolly Killean, owned by Ron McGee and Lionel Arbour of Goderich, finished second for driver Gerry Roebuck at London on Saturday afternoon in the second race. Randy McLean was second with True Mix for Marion J. Powell of Thamesford, third with Metric Time for owners Larry Daw of Clinton and Claude Daw of Mississauga and third again with Captain Betty for Bob McLean of Goderich. Ray Mathers had a fourth with Granny Mathers for the Broken M. Stables of Goderich. Wayne Horner of Clinton is currently in fifth place in the top ten non -driving trainers at Windsor Raceway while his driver Don ,O'Dwyer is eighth among the leading drivers. All her hard work this year is beginning to pay , off. .Amidst some very stiff competition from several eighth figure girls, Marg cap- tured third place in her flight in senior free style. This placing allowed her to skate in the finals for her first time where she placed fifth. Well done, Marg ! Congratulations! Interclub competition gives us a chance to look around and watch what other clubs are doing. Ideas on skating techniques, gestures, costumes, competition management and organization can all be picked up on such a day. Certainly one item was noticeable - Brussels' warm hospitality, not always recognized in larger communities. We may not have made many points but we gained a wealth of ex- perience. -by Audrey Middleton Middleton news by Blanche Deeves Church news Morning prayer was held in St. James Mid- dleton Sunday at 11:15 a.m. with Don Middleton receiving the offering. Rev. Wm. Bennett was in charge of the service. Next Sunday Holy Communion will be ob- served. The ACW of St. James will be taking a bus to London to see the Grand Ole Opry on March 25. ' Friday, the World Day of Prayer service will be held at Trinity Church at 3 p.m. and Mrs. Marion Hindmarsh of Family and Children's Services, Goderich will be guest speaker. Refreghments will be served in the . Parish Hall by the ACW and UCW. All are welcome, and bring a friend. 4-H The third meeting of the Holmesville II 4-H club was held at the home of the assistant leader, Mrs. John Brand on February 26. At this meeting all learned how . to make different kinds Of knots with • scarves and also Inked at the members' accessories. Then the leaders showed how to make scarves. 'The nick name for the club was picked as "super sewers". The next meeting will be held on March. 5 at Mrs. John Brand§ by Allison Postill. Personals Congratulations to the Clinton Midget hockey team, who won their game against Wingham with the score 6-4. Darrell Postill got a goal and one assist. Several from the area attended the Induction Service for the Rev. James R. Broadfoot, B.A.M. Div.; as Rector of the Parish of St. Paul's and St. Thomas Anglican Churches. An enjoyable social hour followed the service in the Parish Hall with several guest speakers giving words of greetings to Rev. Broadfoot. ' A delicious lunch was served by the ladies and a social time was enjoyed by all. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Kuntz on the arrival of a daughter February 23 at Clinton Hospital. Sorry to report Mrs. Fred Hudie is a patient in Clinton Hospital. Clinton I, 4-H news Hats and scarves Were the topic of Jneetings 2 and 3, held at Barb Forbes house. Increasing the effectiveness of both these accessories was explained by leaders Mrs. Marsh Tana- ,Mrs. - Forbes. Preceding , the discussion, President Karen Dale attended to the business and secretary Julie Taylor read the minutes. Following the conclusion of the game, "40 questions" all members practised tying a variety of scarves.• The Clinton I 4-,H club will meet again on March 5, 1979 at the home of 'atti Wheeler. -by Judy learnt: week Wayne's Dilly Dares :was fifth while Karl T. Millie Lobb skipped the second rink with Marlene For- bes, Marj Coleman, 4nd Marilyn Forbes. 1n Goderich Sheila Murray made her debut in bon - spiel skipping with Loretta Dolmage as vice, Leone Rowat and Drusilla Twynham completed the foursome. They placed fourth in the late draw following close games with rinks from Toronto Humber Highland and Goderich. Congratulations to Bill and Grace Campbell and John Jr. and Gwen Patterson who came home with the trophy as winners of the first event at the two-day Golden Horseshoe Bonspiel at the Glendale Golf and Country Club in Hamilton. They were each presented with gold pins as keepsakes. • They'll have to go back next year and win again if they want to keep the trophy, . this being the second time they have won it. The first. game of the 3 - team mixed draw play- offs -exulted in a win for the Friday night team skipped by Gord Pryce with wife, Irma, and Don and Cathy Pletsch over the team of Bill and Millie Lobb with Mert Keyes and Marjorie Papple. They are now scheduled to play the John Pat- terson, Sr. rink to decide an overall winner for the mixed division.
