There is no doubt that
curling can be funand
bonspiels, highly com-
petitive. It also occurs to
this writer that winning
curlers must eat rather
well if one takes a close
look at some of the prizes
being taken home from
bonspiels.
Steaks (count them,
seven!) were the second
prize awarded to each
team member of - the
Dave Cornish rink with
Ray Beattie, Neil
Dolmage and Jim Rose ,at
the Huron County Cat-
tlemen's Association
Spiel in Belmore last
week. All winners in the
Men's Open last Saturday
took home beef as their
prize - no doubt welcomed
by their "curling
widows" - the spiel
having been sponsored by
Rowcliffe Motors Ltd.
jointly with Seaforth
Insurance Agency.
There was a full
complement of rinks at
the spiel with prizes in the
Early Draw going down
to a one -two -three sweep
by Seaforth curlers. In
first place: the team of
Bruce McDonald,
skipped by Doug
Rowcliffe with Paul
Storey and Ken Cardno;
second, John Patterson,
Sr".;.third, Glen Hayter.
The consolation prize
went to the Gerry
Brennan rink from
London.
First place in the Late
Draw and overall winner
of the day was another
Seaforth rink, skipped by
Bill Campbell, with John
Patterson, Jr., Neil
Dolmage and Don
Deighton. Second place
went to Ian.. Grant of
Teeswater *and third to
Don Gibson of Harriston
and Murray Forbes of
Seaforth picked up the
Consolation.
Congratulations' and good
eating to all winners!
The girls of the Junior
Curling Club were well
represented by Vicki Ste.
Marie, Susan Primeau,
Maureen Hutchinson and
Betsy Ste. Marie at the
Huron High School
Playdowns last week.
They won both their
games, over Exeter and
W ingha m, and go on to
represent Huron County
at the Huron -Perth

The team from CHSS
with Bill Gibson, Brian
Falconer, Dave Town-
send, Ron Taylor and
John Coleman as spare,
won games over
Goderich and Exeter and
will represent the Boy's
Division. Winners of the
Huron -Perth Playdowns
go on to championship
curling.
The Junior Curlers
enjoyed a fun day last
Sunday and entertained
teams from Vanastra in
friendly competition. A
Vanastra team took home
the first prize with. Brian
Ruston's rink placing
second.
The Seaforth Ladies
held their first fun day of
the season last Tuesday,
with a full turn -out of
curlers, the best yet! Pat
Deighton skipped the

Coleman, vice; Margie

Cunningham, with Bill
Lobb, vice; Bill Fleming,

were knocked out of

Stratford last weekend.
Four games wit lots of
good curling. -
Around the Club: the
Mixed and Men's

scheduled to be played to
determine overall win-
ners of the last draw.
Competition Curling this
week should decide a
winner in the "B"

play the winner of the
"A" Division already
decided, the Bob Ste.
Marie rink. Upcoming -
this weekend: the
McKinley Chicken Spiel
on Saturday, February

Mother Nature can create some beautiful art work on house windows,
especially when the temperature dips to minus 32 degrees C (-25 degrees F) as
it has in the past week, breaking some new records that go back 70 years.

when the Brussels club
hosts our interclub
competition. For those of
you who are new at this
game, interclub is a
grouping of clubs which
has an executive who,
amongst other things
plan a competition once a
year.
Twenty clubs belong •
and are eligible to send
contestants. Needless to
say every club tries to
send their very best
skaters in the hope of
picking up some points.
Our contestants have
been picked who are now
hard at work in
preparation for the big
day.
On Sunday, everytime
a Clintonian steps onto
the ice, we in the stands
will hoist our new gold
and purple banner and
shout like crazy! Good
luck, Clinton. Whatever

St. Marys
arena deficit
The St. Marys Journal -
Argus reported that the
town will pay $11,308.68
as their share of the
deficit incurred by the St.
Marys Arena and
Community Centre in
1978.
The amount is 50 per
cent of the $22,617.36
deficit suffered by the
arena. The remaining
half of the money will be
.pi'cked up by the
surrounding townships.
It was noted by one
councillor that the centre
needs to be ,used more
often during the week to
help offset some of the
expenses.
It was also noted that
the Junior and Inter-
mediate hockey clubs did
not meet their com-
mitments. Attendance at
the Junior games was
down 7,000 fans
