"When in doubt, follow
your heart", are the
words of Bernard
Baruch. February is
Heart Month, and if,
when the canvasser calls
at your door you are in
doubt whether to donate,
remember your own
heart and give. The
theme for this year's
drive is Save Your Life.
' Out of every dollar
given to the Heart Fund,
70 cents goes for research
into the prevention and
treatment of heart
disease and stroke.
.London is one of Ontario's
important research
centres and much work is
being carried out there.
Last year $300,000 came
back into this area for use
in research at University
Hospital, London.
And when you give be
sure and ask for a
receipt, your canvasser
\ will gladly give one to
you.

Bud Boyes, 35, is
miraculously recovering
in the comfort of his
Clinton home after he
was hurt in a serious
accident.
It is unlikely that Mr.
Boyes will lose his sight
after a battery exploded
in his face at his com-
pany, Boyes Transport on
February 9.
"It was so loud that I
heard it at the house," his
wife Elaine said.
OPP report
Although the snow let
up over the past week,
high snowbanks can still
make driving
treacherous.
The Goderich OPP
reported that snowbanks
on concession 4 - 5, of
Stanley Township, south
of Sideroad 25 - 26, were
the cause of -a February
18 crash.
A car driven by Betty
M. Ryerson, 16,. RR 5,
Clinton was southbound
on the concession road
when it struck a
snowbank and collided
with an oncoming car
driven by Roger G.
Lewis, 17, Goderich.
The drivers and their
passengers were not
injured, but damage to
the Ryerson car was set
at $400 and $200 to the
Lewis vehicle.
• "Bud must have had a
reflex action and turned
when it happened
because it just hit the
temple area," she noted.
Although his, eyes were
badly burned, Mr. Boyes'
skin was only slightly
burned. The battery acid
was quickly flushed from
his face by fellow em-
ployees.
Mr. Boyes spent three
days in Victoria Hospital
following the accident
and then was alto led to
come home. Since then,
he has only had one bad
day when he couldn't see,
but with doctor's
suprevision and
medication he is
recovering.

A' young Huron County
family is being tested for
polio after it came in
contact with the disease
while attending a wed-
ding in Pennsylvania.
Two or three persons
are being tested, said
Huron County medical
officer of heaalth Dr.
Brian Lynch. He did not
release their names or
say what part of the
county they are from.
Lynch said he hasn't
quarantined the family
because "the risk is very
minimal."
He said the family
came into contact with
the polio about four
weeks ago, "which is well
outside the incubation
period." None of the
family has shown any
symptoms.
It was believed seven
Oxford County residents
also were in contact with
the disease as a result of
the same Pennsylvania
trip but 'all tested
negative. Oxford
County's medical officer
of health could not be
reached for comment
Sunday.
Last summer a polio
outbreak in the Norwich
area of Oxford County
resulted in about nine
persons being quaran-
tined. Six confirmed
cases of the disease were
found, mainly among
members of an orthodox
Dutch Reformed
congregation.
