Swim Night
On Sunday evening the
Londesboro United
Church held their family
swim night.
Despite a late start, an
hour's fun in the water
was enjoyed at the
Vartastra Community
Centre pool. A good
number of people,
swimmers and spectators
turned out in spite of the
cold weather for the
evening.
Randy Shepherd won
the prize for being the
youngest swimmer and
the Nick Whyte family
had the most family
members in the water.
Howard Cartwright was
thought to be the oldest
swimmer present.
Afterwards, a lunch of
sandwiches, squares,
coffee, hot chocolate and
fellowship was enjoyed at
the church. Thanks is
offered to all who helped
and attended for the
making of a memorable
evening.
United Church
Rev. Don Darrell of
Clinton was the guest
minister at the United
Church on Sunday while
Rev. Stan McDonald is
holidaying.
Nick Whyte and
David Lear greeted the
congregation while Linda
Johnston, Joan Mason
Wnd Shelley and Debbie
esterhout ushered the
people to their seats.
Ruth Shaddick directed
the choir and Louise
'McGregor played the
organ. The junior
teachers were Barbara
Bosman and Christine
Carter.
Berean Unit
The Berean Unit of the
UCW held their meeting
at the home of Ida Durnin
last Wednesday af-
ternoon.
Leader Helen Lawson
opened the meeting with
a reading and -'—she
welcomed everyone and
thanked Mrs. Durnin for
having the meeting in her
home. The scripture was
read !by Alice Davidson
and Mrs. Lawson led in
prayer.
The year's study will be
on human rights. Mrs.
Lawson gave some
remarks on Katherine
Hockens, the speaker at
the Huron -Perth
Presbyterial meeting in
Exeter on Monday.
The minutes of the
January meeting were
read by the secretary
Dora Shobbrook. It was
noted that Lavina Know
sent a note of thanks for
her mother's birthday
card.
The treasurer's report.
was given by Margaret
Good and the roll call was
answered with a verse on
love. Eleven members
replied.
the next meeting will
be held on March 7 at the
home of Helen Lawson.
Addie Hunking will clean
the brAss in the church
for the month of March.
It was decided that the
club entertain the
Aimwell Unit in May. The
Meeting then closed in
prayer and lunch was
served by Hattie Wood
and -Alice Davidson.
WI Card Party
There were nine tables
in play at the- WI Family
night, Trudy Pollard and
Barbara Bosman were in
charge of the evening.
The winners included;
high, Beth Knox and Jack
Riley; low, Ruth Vincent
and Lorne Hunking; lone
ands, Trudy Pollard and
m Howatt. Nona Pipe
had the most zeros and
the lucky cup was won by
Elizabeth Lawson.
Another card party will
be held in two weeks on
February 23.
Personals
Mr. and Mrs. Allen
Bosman, Lisa and Kelly
moved on February 3 to
their new home they built
in the village. We
welcome them.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Allen left on Thursday to
spend the weekend at
Dwight, Ontario where
they enjoyed
snowmobiling.
Anthony Sleevwenhoek
of Kitchener spent last
weekend with his aunt
and uncle, Mr. and Mrs.
Arie Duizer. Wednesday,
visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Duizer were Mr. and
Mrs. Jake Murilwyk of
Fonthill and Mrs. Pete
