ALPHA meeting
Accessibielity to the
handicapped is not
always usability by the
handicapped. Alpha
Huron has been
preaching this since its
inception.
The members were
made aware of this at a
meeting held in Clinton
Public School.
Clinton man dies
Hartley Managhan
A' Clinton native,
Hartley James
Managhan died suddenly
in the Clinton hospital on
February 10. He was 81
years old.
Mr. Managhan was
born on August 7, 1898 to
Thomas and Fanny
Managhan.
Mr. Managhan at-
tended the Clinton Public
School, served in the first
and second World Wars
and worked with Canada
Packers.
In 1925, in Seaforth Mr.
Managhan was married
to Violet L. Gliddon and
the - couple continued to
live in Clinton at 400
Victoria Street.
Mr. Managhan was a
member of the United
Church and the Royal
Wingham
Memorials
Canadian Legion.
Along with his wife, Mr.
Managhan is survived by
one son, Robert of Kit-
chener. He is also sur-
vived by a brother
Clarence of Windsor and
a granddaughter,
Pamela.
Rev. James Managhan
-of Windsor conducted the
funeral services at the
Ball Funeral Home on
'February 13. Spring
interment will follow at
the Clinton cemetery.
President Pat Watson
noted that the sanitary
facilities for the han-
dicapped at Suncoast
Mall in Goderich are
installed to one side of the
cubicle. This enables a
wheelchair person to pull
alongside and use the
facility. If the facility is
centered, as it often is,
there is not usually room
to do this and it is not
usable.
In answer to a letter to
E.A. Starr, secretary -
manager of the Ontario
Plowmen's Association,
Alpha Huron was assured
that the lack of sanitary
facilities for the han-
dicapped at the 1978
International Plowing
Match would be brought
to ,the attention of the
supplier for future years.
Alpha Huron meets
next on Tuesday,
February 27 at 8 p.m. in
Brussels arena. All are
welcome.

Varna arena active for carniva.1
Many families enjoyed
the Annual Skating
Carnival at the Varna
rink on Sunday afternoon.
Some members of the
Stanley Township
Recreation Committee,
which sponsors the event,
were busy organizing
games on the ice, while
others worked in the
Orange Lodge Hall where
they operated a snack
bar.
Prizes were awarded to
skaters in the following
categories: youngest girl,
Brenda Consitt; youngest
boy, Craig McAsh; birth-
days closest to Valentines
Day, Shelly Hayter and
Steven Taylor; oldest
person on skates, Wat
Webster; largest family
on skates, Jim, Dianne,
Scott and Susan Kirton.
The mothers vs.
daughters hockey game
had to be called off due to
a scarcity of mothers on
skates. (Let's plan to do
better next year,
mothers!) However, a
group of children eagerly
formed teams treated
spectators to an en-
thusiastic game of
hockey. Rossalyn
Elliott's team defeated
Jacqui Taylor's team 5 to
2.
Later, a rousing game
of men's broomball
provided some ex-
citement and many
laughs. According to
referee Ross Whittaker,
Jim Consitt's team
defeated Gerald Rath -
well's team 8-4, although
some members of the
losing team were heard
disputing the referee's,
decision on that final
score.
Thanks to Dianne
Kirton for doing such a
capable job of writing up
the carnival in the ab-.
sence of the correspon-
dent.
Pat and Barry Taylor
and children Jacqui,
Steven and Greg returned
a week ago Tuesday
evening from a holiday in
Florida. They visited the
main tourist attractions,
fine markets,.. of fine foods

"Accessories, The
Final Touch" is the
theme of this peason's 4-H
club. Mrs. Marsh set up
an interesting display in
her home to illustrate to
the Clinton I 4-H girls the
new topic.
Two teams battled at a
game of "40 questions",
led by Mrs. Marsh, which
ended in 20 questions this
week and 20 next. Mrs.
Forbes, using Karen and
Sharon Dale as models,
demonstrated which
colors they could choose
for their wardrobes.
Gordon Johnston and

Frank Falconer won the
