"If music be the food of

did. Dodger held
everyone's attention.
Opening with The Caro`
they won their audience
over In a snap.
Their first set was FM
rock; Springsteen, Cheap
Trick, Eddie Money, and
Queen. It was a real
display of vocals and I
quote lead vocalist and
Eddie Money look alike
Dave Love when he said
',`Nobody does
12
Springsteen like Ido."
The second set was '60s
rock. Dressed- in tuxes
they did songs like Red
Rubber Ball, Glad All
Over and Last Train to
Clarksville. They were
,just like the Monkees on
Saturday morning. .
Calling themselves the
.Mean Machine they
raved on about their
three guitar attack. The
members of the attack

The week at CHSS
The CHSS Countdown
Program is underway.
Students who have en-
tered must try to lose (or
gain) as much weight as
possible between the end
of January until March 2
when the "loser" will be
announced.
Winter Carnival is
coming to CHSS soon.
Starting February. 5, the
school week will be filled
with sports events, a
dance, a button lottery
and more. Buttons are
being sold for 40 cents
apiece and entitle the
buyer to win prizes up to
$25. Let's show school
spirit at its finest.
It will soon be course
selection time for
students at CHSS.
Student calendars with
course listings have been
distributed and it is only a
matter of time before the
course selections take
place.
+++
Thil April the eyes of
Ontario will be on CHSS
as the Chronicle holds its
first -'ever high school
newspaper conference.
Volleyball
team do well
in tourney
by Michelle Corbett
Last Wednesday,
January 24. a Huron
County volleyball tour-
nament was held at
CHSS. The junior Red -
women, under the
coaching of Miss Birch,
made an impressive start
into their season winning
six out of the eight games
they played. Their only
disappointment came
when they lost twice to
Goderich.
The senior Redwomen
won all four of their
games played against
Seaforth and gave
Goderich a tough fight
before they were forced
to admit defeat. Although
they are still without the
services of a fulltime
coach, (the senior team
looks st ons.
With a little more
practise they will soon be
numbed one in the county.
•
Par'ticipants from as far
away as Kenora, Pem-
broke, Thunder Bay and
more plan to come on
Friday, April 20-22. The
conference's aim is to
produce a newspaper and
to develop techniques for
producing it. In all, 65
students from high
schools across Ontario
plan to attend.
+++
It is the halfway mark
in the school year as 96
days (including exams)
have passed at press
time. Tech students in
years 1 and 2 have
changed over to their
second set of courses.
Pat Flynn on bass.
Behind the attack and
having his own was Bob
Francis on drums.
The third set, which
was said to ,be the best
was Dodger originals.
Many people were im-
pressed by such songs as
Dead in My Trax and
Rock 'n' Roll Control.
Bringing everything
together in sight and
sound is Jim Pugsley,
sound technician arid
Rick Pikula lighting
technician. Jim has
formerly worked ` with
Bond, Wireless, Airborne
and The Hunt and Rick
with Boston World Tn'ur
'78, Doobie "Bros. World
Tour /76 and ' 77, Styx
Canadian Tour '78, and
Tubes Tour '76'.77.
Among Dodgers'
favourite things are
backgammon, . girls,
white milk, British rock,
Devo, The Cars, Cheap
Trick and Heineken.
Their pet peeves are
Hellfield and disco.
Dave Love was really
amazed by our school
spirit and was glad that
Dodger got a better
response than Hellfield.
Just before I go I'd like
to thank Gerry, Randy
and anyone else who
donated their muscle and
assistance in setting up.

CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1979 --PAGE 21
Accounts on Mr. Cook
and his career
When someone asks
what Mr. Cook teaches, I
suddenly recall the
embarrassing moments
in his class. What can you
do when a full roll of tape
accidentally deta,ches
itself from the adding
machine only to wrap
itself around both my legs
and the tables? One thing
is certain, I came out of
his. Accounting class
knowing that there was a
difference between Net
Profit and Net Loss.
Mr. Cook was born and
raised in Clinton just a
few years back. He at-
tended Clinton Public
School and Clinton
District Collegiate
Institute (now CHSS).
Before continuing his
education in university,
Mr. Cook served in the
Air Force for four years.
He later graduated from
the University of Western
Ontario where he
majored in Honors
Business.
From here, Mr. Cook
remained occupied while
working as a Chartered
Accountant, for the tax
department and a
chartered accountant
firm in Goderich where
he lives with his wife. Mr.
and Mrs. Cook have one
daughter, Linda, who is
married and is nursing at
Big Brother
Here we are again with
some newsy little articles
to 'brighten up' your day!
Spaghetti legged R.B.
was last seen dancing
among the shelves in the
library with his charming
scarf. Mr. Music please.
Skippity-do-dah...
Anyone wishing to join
Mr. H's school of charm
should go to Room 316
dtiring his 250 to practise
pirouettes with him. All
together now...keep those
toes pointed.
We will soon be hearing.'
wedding bells at CHSS.
M.M. and H.M. will 'be
uniting as soon as they
figure. out who throws the
bouquet.
The latest wave to hit
Mr. S's Eng. 450 class is
the perm. In order to be
different Mr. S. is going
to get his straightened.
Be sure to let us know if
the baby cries.
For those of you at the
'Dodger' dance did you
know that God was there?
So K.M. thought! I've
never seen God in a red
silk kimono. So K what's;
the gospel according to
St. Paul?
Watch out next week!
Big Brother's watching!
P.S. Hey E.R., is it too
late for Pop?
St. Joseph's Hospital.
Their son Allan, works in
a department store in
Stratford.
In Goderich, Mr. Cook
had the opportunity to go
into partnership but this
idea fell through.
However, while the new
addition was being built
on to CHSS Mr. Cook
came in contact with Mr.
Cochrane, the principal
at ,that time. Mr. Cook
inquired about a job at
the high school. Guess
what? He got the job! For
16 continuous years this
man has plowed through
wind, sun, snow and rain
to teach at CHSS.
Apart from the
teaching profession, Mr.
Cook belongs to
numerous organizations.
When he finds the time,
Mr. Cook enjoys model
railroading, golf and
.decorating his Honda 50
for the many parades he
can be found in.
Having graduated from
this high school, Mr. Cook
has certain sentiments
towards CHSS. Not
everyone is fortunate
enough to get a job in a
school that you prac-
tically grew up with. Mr.
Cook really . enjoys the
students of CRSS and
vice -versa.
Speaking of students,
Mr. Conk in his schoolboy
days had quite the
record. This rather quiet
fellow . was classed as a
'model student' by many
teachers and principals.
.He was a typical good boy
never being expelled
from school, never
skipping classes,( never
being late and always
having an ace• report
card. Keep up the good
work sir! You're still
yotiiig at heart, even
though your Accounting
400 class has got your age
pinpointed down to three-
numero places!
