Mrs. Grange opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and reading a poem, Spring Tiptoed Through the Town Last Night. The year's financial statement was given by the treasurer, Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock showing total receipts for $466.45 with expenditures being $355.99 to keep up the flowerbeds in the village during the past year along with window boxed and the Man- chester Garden. The auditor's report prepared by Mrs. B' th Lansing and Mrs. Oliver Anderson, was read by the secretary. Mrs. Frank Raithby was called upon to preside for the election of officers. The chairman of the nominating com- mittee, James Towe, gave the list of officers which was accepted by the members. Mrs. Grange was thanked for her leadership and welcomed, back for another term. Plans were started for the coming celebration for Auburn's birthday party and a committee to plan a float for the parade were named: Mrs. Frances Clark, Stewart Ball, Ross Robinson, Mrs. Maurice Bean and Mrs. Gordon Dobie. Flower baskets for the streets have been ordered and as yellow and green were the colors named for the Auburn colors, this color scheme will be worked into the floral decorations. James Towe was ap- pointed to see if the Auburn and District Lions Club would assist in providing benches or seats to be placed in different parts of the village for the senior citizens and othersto use. Orders for white and Norway spruce trees were taken and anyone wishing for any spring planting, please contact Mrs. Bradnock. The Red Maple was chosen as a special tree to be planted by the Auburn Society to commemorate the 125th birthday of Auburn and a suitable place will be found to plant it. After several items of business, plans were made for the March 5 meeting at 8 p.m. when a speaker will be present to talk on flowers to grow for the 125th celebrations in the village flower beds. Mrs. Thomas Jardin and Mrs. Thomas Haggitt will be the lunch ‘corn- mittee. Officers of the Auburn Horticultural Society for 1979 are: president - Mrs. Dorothy Grange; first vice-president - Mrs. Ross Robinson; second vice-president - Mrs. Ross Andrews; secretary - Mrs. Thomas Haggitt; treasurer - Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock; assistant secretary - Mrs. Frances Clark; pianist Mrs. Donald Haines; assistant pianist .- Mrs. Brian Hallam; directors elected this year - Stewart Ball, James Towe, Mrs. James Glousher, Mrs. Donald Cartwright and Mrs. James • Schneider; directors to retire 1979 - Mrs. Frank Raithby, Mrs. Thomas Lawlor,_ Mrs. Robert Turner, Mrs. Rpbert Arthur and Mrs. Thomas Jardin; auditors - Mrs. Oliver Anderson and Mrs. Beth Lansing; • nominating committee - Mrs. Donald Haines, Mrs. John Durnin and Mrs. Ernest Durnin; and elephone committee - Mrs. Frances Clark, Mrs. Elma McFarlane and James Towe. SOCIAL NEWS A "Beat the January Blahs Lasagna Bash" was held last week by Mrs. Marie Hebert and Mrs. Ann St. Jean for several friends. All present recommended it as an effective way to beat cold weather blues. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Randy ,Machan (nee Arva Ball) on the birth of their ,son, Craig Randall in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich last week.
