Bill's committee consisted of Comrade Ken Schmidt who did a gourmet job of decorating the piglet and the salmon display, reminiscent of old Sgts. Mes-s days. The . spread was a gourmet delight seldom seen in these parts, and our congratulations and heart felt thanks to these Comrades who did an expert job of catering for -at least one-fifth of the price we would have had to pay for a professional catering service. With -this kind of keenness and devotion, the Legion is' well off to another successful- year of activities for the. 1979 year. Gasoline goes metric Many motorists will be purchasing gasoline and motor oil by the litre beginning in January, 1979. The metric con- version of service station pumps to dispense in litres instead of gallons will be a gradual process, scheduled to be com- pleted by the end of 1980. The petroleum industry plans to. convert pumps first in the major population centres following a plan develgp_esl by their metric conversion sector committee and published two years ago by Metric Commission Canada. A tank fill -up may vary from less than 50 L for small cars tb.over 80 L for large ones. Results of oil company test programs in Canada and the United States using service station pumps dispensing in litres have shown that._ motorists adapted quickly to the changeover. Most drivers continued to buy gasoline in terms of a tank fill -up - or the number of dollars worth they wanted. Other changes will be seen at service stations. Motor oil will be Sold in litre containers, and other items will even- tually be in metric -size packages.
