By Mary Chessell • Last fall little Shelley Stephenson found a balloon in the field containing the name and address of a seven-year- old lad, from Lacona, Iowa, Chad Dittmer. Her mother wrote to him, and at Christmas Shelley received a card and letter telling her it was the balloon that had travelled the farthest of 200 that had been released at that time. Apparently several balloons of this type have landed around here. New Year's Eve parties were hosted by Paul and Elaine Stephenson and Bill and Joyce Dowson. Mrs. Florence Elliott held a family dinner on Thursday 'when her son Brucc and his family e ernhome from Aurora. The g spent the weekend in the Seaforth and Varn: area. Those who heard Mrs Marion Lawrence speak about her son Marshall's work in translating the scriptures in Papua, New Guinea at the September 'UCW meeting, will be interested in, an article . about his work which appeared ' in • last week -end's Canadian magazine. He and his. family have been on furlough. .The Taylor family (Bill and his relatives) had a family get-together in the township hall on Satur- day evening with about 38 present. Mrs. Taylor . assisted Rev. Alex Taylor with the service on Sunday, their last before " his retirement. -R-ev:-Stewa-rf - Miner of Exeter will conduct the services for the next two Sundays. The January UCW meeting will be held tonight. The Orange Lodge is holding the first card party of the season \on Friday night - -...see "Coming Events". , Scott Consitt's hockey team, the Clintott Midgets, played in a tournament in New Hamburg. on Tuesday. 'They -lost two of the three games they played by close scores. Paul Consitt played with a team from the Queen Elizabeth School in Goderich in a floor hockey tournament in Owen Sound recently. They, made an,,excellent showing. Bill, Mary and Brian Chessell attended the marriage of Brenda Chessell and Richard LeBlanc of Edmonton in Trinity Anglican Church,„i Mitchell on Friday evening, and the reception which followed at the Legion Hall. The Dowson family joined the Jewitts at the home of Mrs. Wm. Jewitt in Seaforth on Sunday, and had Christmas dinner at the Commercial Hotel. 4'he Allan Hayter family and the Dowsons spent Christmas Day together. On Boxing Day the Dowsons were joined by Miss Rachel Johnston and Glenn Dowson at the home. of Mrs. Margaret' Dowson. Also home were Mrs. Marion Tipping and her boys, Danny, David. and Jamie. • With Bob and Gwynne Roberts and Jessica fora couple of days - at Christmas were Gwynne's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Martin of Brantford. On Boxing Day they , went to Brantford to a family gathering at the home of his mother. Mrs. Florence Elliott, Norman and Walter Smith spent Christmas Day with Mr. and, Mrs. Roy .Elliott of Egmon- dville.
