Post office breaks bylaw
At the Bayfield Council
meeting on Monday
night, the Clerk was
instructed to convey to
the proper post office
authority, the in-
formation that a sign
erected on the site of the
village post -office has
been placed there in
contravention of a village
by-law regarding the
position of signs on the
main street.
No request was made to
the village for permission
to erect such a sign and it
was generally agreed by
Council that it is not only
illegal but not in keeping
with the general ap-
pearance which main
street property owners
are endeavouring to
maintain.
Iri other business, the
Council has signed a new
agreement with Bud
Chamney of Auburn to
provide garbage
collection service for the
village for two years on
the same terms as in the
former agreement of
December 1976, with one
exception ie. that pay for
his services will be
$12,000.
The following com-
mittee chairmen and co-
chairmen have been
appointed for 1979:

mits, lotteries; chair-

Christmas parties held
The village is beautiful
these days -in the daytime
sun, and clouds above,
and the usual breath-
taking sunsets, At night a
full moon and bright stars
above, the occasional
light skim of snow and
Christmas lights
every where: -perfect
settings for fortunate
children!
Holidays have not even
begun for the younger set
but the number of parties
is impossible to keep
track of by a
correspondent.
A Sunday School party
was held by Trinity
Anglican after the ser-
vice on Sunday when
Carols were sung led by
Lillian Higgins, and dear
old Santa arrived in time
to distribute gifts to the
children. Lunch was
provided by the Guild and
adults were welcome so
they stayed to enjoy the
good time.
Tom Penhale took
Sunday School children
from St. Andrews lor a
wagon -ride -no snow for
the promised sleigh -ride -
and the party continued
at the church one day last
week. I haven't heard but
I bet old Santa got to that
party too! He gets around
a lot faster than I can!
The Scout groups have
had their parties,
assisted by their Ladies'
Auxiliary and planned by
their leaders. A happy
Christmas for them all,
Scouts, Cubs, Guides,
Brownies and Beavers!

Trinity Guild news
The December meeting
of Trinity Church Ladies'
Guild was held at the
home of Mrs. Ruby
Fitzsimons, on Tuesday
afternoon, December 12th
with the President Lorna
Merner presiding.The
roll call was answered by
13 members and two
guests were welcomed,
Marie Fitzsimons and
Janet McDougall.
The president thanked
all for coming out and
also the two guests,
Marie and Janet -we are
hoping girls----. Fern
Baker read the Bible
lesson and Debbie Wain
read a delightful and
thought -searching poem
Greta Scotchmer, a
former secretary for
many years, acted on
behalf of our regular
secretary, Berthena
Hammond, who is trying
to get our mail through
the post -office. Hope you
are -back on the job for
January, Berthena.
A letter was read from
our foster child in
Pakistan thanking us for
her birthday gift and
telling us a little bit of her
life there. Ruby Fitz-
simons has written to her
and sent her a Christmas
gift of money. Thank -you
cards were received from
our recent ill people of the
church to whom we had
sent flowers or cards.
Vera Turner gave her
treasurer's report. The
bazaar was a great
success and donations
are still coming in. It was
reported that in the penny
collection the blues are
riding high with the pinks
trying to catch up. By
mutual agreement, it was
decided to hold the pot
luck supper with our
September meeting, but
to keep the pennies
coming for next year. .-
The pennies from the
blue and pink competition
are given to the Sunday
school and our birthday
bank money goes to the
new Rectory building
fund.
Eighteen memorial
cards were sent out
during the year. Many of
these brought back sad
memories of "'lends,
close and dear to us.
As the officers for 1978
have done a wonderful
job they voted them all
back again to their offices
to do their usual good
work. How about it girls?
Everyone happy? •
Our thoughts and
prayers are with Ruth
and Ken Mutzelburg. Ken
is in University Hospital
The next meeting will
be held on Tuesday,
January 9th with a Bible
reading by Jeanne
Bennett and a poem for
the New Year by Ruby
Fitzsimmons.
The meeting was closed
with a beautiful prayer
by the . Rector who
dropped in fora cup of tea
and to sample the lovely
lunch provided by
hostesses Debbie Wain
and Ruby Fitzsimmons.

Fun for everyone
The Dumbville Christmas concert, put on by the Grade 2 and 3 classes at
Holmesville Public School got an additional laugh from the audience on
Monday afternoon when one youngster decided to join in the fun on stage.

Candlelight service enjoyed
The choir at St.
Andrew's United Church
has been preparing for
the Candlelight Carol
Service for weeks. On
Sunday night the
congregation enjoyed the
results.
Candle -light from the
window -wells flickered
over the crowded pews.
Accompanied by the
Processional Hymn '0
Come All Ye Faithful',
the candle -bearing choir
members moved down
the aisles of the darkened
nave to fill the choir loft.
As the rf r,::servic'e
progressed, the musical
numbers evoked the true
spirit of Christmas in the
special way that beautiful
music has the power to
do.
The piano, played by
Ruth Andrew, with the
organ music of Molly Cox
provided a joyous ac-
companiment to the
choir. A special delight
was the duet sung by
Jean Milne and Molly
with Ruth at the piano.
The Rev. James
Reddoch conducted the
service while the Rev.
Alun Thomas added his
