Hugh and Marty Lobb sang a duet and Doug Yeo and Bill Crawford received the offering. Next Sunday WhiteGift Sunday will be celebrated. The services will be held at 1 p.m. with Rev. John Oestreicher in charge. Social notes Alvin and Barb Betties spent Wednesday visiting friends in Hamilton. The UCW group of the Holmesville Church are reminded that they will meet on December 5 in the church. The ladies are asked to note the change of meeting date. Rec dance The Goderich Township Recreation Dance was held on Saturday night at the White Carnation with a good attendance. Everyone enjoyed dancing to the music of the Country Companions. The door prize was won by Rod Johnston, a former township resident. He won a bushel of apples, donated by Lassaline Orchards. Euchre party An enjoyable evening of progressive euchre was held last Thursday in the Holmesville School by the Goderich Township WI with nine tables playing. The winners included: ladies' high, Mrs. Cummings; men's high, Bruce McClinchey; ladies' low, Blanche Deeves; men's low, Stan Bradshaw; lone hands, Mrs. Cummings. The next card party will be held on November 23 (tonight) at the same place and time. Ladies are asked to bring san- dwiches. Mrs. Bess Fingland, right, was the proud recipient of the citizen of the year award from the local IODE group this year. Hensall and area obituaries By Bertha MacGregor The pallbearers for the funeral of the late Ralph Turner were Messers George Dowson, Jim McGregor, .Bill Consitt, Wilmer Turner, David Turner, Harvey Taylor; flowerb,earers were Messers Ralph Stephenson, Jim Consitt, Jack Coleman, Keith Stephenson, Peter Groot and Doug Proctor. Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Cudmore were recent visitors with their daughter Mrs. W, MacDonald in Brampton. Rev. Hugh Davidson of Listowel conducted service in Carmel Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Mrs. Robert Taylor presided at the organ and led the choir in the anthem "Wonderful Words of Life". Mr. Jack Corbett is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London where he is undergoing treat- ment. Anyone having tickets on the senior citizens quilt are asked to hand Goderich Twp Goderich Township Council passed a motion to change the name of Black's Point Road to Lakeside Park Road. The motion was made after discussing correspon- dence from the Ministry. of Transportation and Communications (M.T.C.) regarding .,the signs at „the road `,when council met in regular session on November 20. Ralph Wesley Turner Ralph Wesley Turner of 93 King Street, Hensall passed away suddenly at his residence on Thur- sday November 23,1978 in council news Township Council meeting. It was headed by T. Nelson of Avonton reported breathing classes in Seaforth have resumed with Mrs. Carol Bowker of Clinton conducting the classes. The meeting was presided over by Mrs. Mary Dodds of Stratford. McKercher's portrait shown Helen McKercher, former director of the home economics branch, Ontario ministry of agriculture and food, and a native of McKillop, was honoured last week when her portrait was unveiled in the Canadian Agricultural Hall of Fame. 'the fourth woman to be nanhed to the Hall, Miss Mc1ercher is now one of the' 102 members. Miss McKercher, who is retired and living in Stratford, and members of her family were among the guests at a dinner and reception along with the unveiling. She is the Honorary President of the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario, a Life Member of Associated Coun- trywomen of the World, a recipient of the 1967 Centennial Medal, and an Alumnus of Honour, University of Guelph aiurnni'Association. Miss iKercher was nominated for the award by the Federated Women's Institutes of Ontario. Other names to the Hall were the late Robert R. He was born in Stanely Township on May 6th, 1913, the son of the late Webster and Minerva Turner. He married the former Jeanette McAllister on October 15th, 1938. She survives him. They farmed on the Parr Line, RR 1, Zurich until retirement in 1968. Surviving are orie son, Robert of RR 1 Zurich and two daughters, Mrs. Ken (Marion) McClure, RR 4 , Walton and Mrs. Ray (Marjorie) McLean, London. Also surviving are one brother Elmer of RR 1, Varna and ' one sister Mrs. Eileen Consitt of Zurich and eight grandchildren. He was predeacesed by one grandson. Funeral service took place at the Bonthron Funeral Home, Hensall on Saturday. November 25th? 1978 with the Rev. T.G. Husser officiating. Interment was in Bayfield Cemetery. 'Pallbearers were Bill Consitt, David Turner, Harvey Taylor, George Dowson, Wilmer Turner and Jim MacGregor. Flowerbearers were Doug Proctor, Keith Stephenson, Jim Consitt. Peter Groot, Jack Coleman, and Ralph Stephenson. Mrs. Edgar Munn returned home after visiting with her son-in- law and daughter,' Mr. and Mrs. Don Gooding and Dale at Parkhill.
