And the children came in droves to the table that featured goods from 10 to 35 cents. The Market has become one of the largest church bazaars in Huron . County. (News -Record photo) Channel 12's fall line-up BY JOANNE BUCHANAN "It all started at a little 5000 watt television station..." That's newscaster Ted Baxter's line in the Mary Tyler Moore Show but it could very well be a line for the crew at the Channel 12 TV Station located at Holmesville. Ronnie Varga, program co-ordinator for the community TV station is really excited about this year's line' -up of shows. She feels that community programming has come a long way since it was started here three years ago. This year the station will -produce six different programs up from last year's 'three. This in- crease is all due to the tremendous efforts of the volunteers who work for non-profit community programming. r - The volunteer Crew was originally taught to use the equipment at the station by a technician but since then, they have mastered the equipment by trial and error and practise, practise, practise! The station does not have a full crew for both nights of their programming so the crew that does exist often has to double up for both nights. Ronnie would like a full crew for each night and would be happy to Rev. walks for W4ile most people might complain of aching feet, the cold, or being tired and thirsty, Rev. Michael Boulger's main problem during his 100 mile walk from Toronto to Monkton was being bored. The Mitchell Advocate reported that the 43 -year- old minister made his long, lonely trek to raise money for renovations to be done on the Monkton United Church. The journey netted Rev: Boulger about $2,700 but with an anonymous donation of $100, his total may near $3,000. Rev. Boulger made three-quarters of the trip by himself but was joined by friends and members of the church along the. way. On his second day, Rev. Boulger's 14 -year- old son walked with him for about two hours. When he reached his finishing point in Monkton, Rev. On Monday evenings the Lions Club TV bingo is on from 7-9 p.m. On Wednesday evenings from 7 to 7:30 Doug Fisher of Goderich will host a sports show on TV 12 called Simply: Sports. Then from 7:30 to 8 p.m. Stan Profit will host a show called I'll be Seeing You, in which he will interview people of interest in the com- munity. Every few weeks both Ronnie and Stan will appear on this show to give different points of view. On Thursday evenings TV 12 will feature a different regular special once ' a month, Warren and Eleanor Robinson will host a musical special called The Best of Friends ' one week a month; Fred Salter will host a program called The Bluewater Special on events at the Bluewater Centre one week a month; . and Ronnie Varg will host a prog am called Foxy's Frie ds (about "women stuff and silliness") one week a month. It is hoped that the Goderich Little Theatre Group can fill in church ' fire engine and young people carried him on a stretcher. • '.t.. - the remaining week of each month with weekly. specials. Thursday evenings will also feature other local talent and events filmed by the crew who will be wandering about the area once in a while with their portable camera. TV 12 also covered the local elections this year. Community and social events and . barometric readings are on TV 12 when community programming is not on. "Everyone pitches in here and we all have a lot of fun," says Ronnie, 'who feels they are all doing something for the community. What , people have to remember, she says, is that "community station" means it's everybody's station in the area (Goderich, Clinton, Vanastra and Holmesville). She would like to hear ,from anyone who has any ideas or wlho'• would like to assist the crew. • With more programs this year and an increase in standards, who knows, the crew at Channel 12 may some day be saying: It all started... Bruce Sully presented the cheque recently • to James Murphy on the basis of the "wonderful contribution the Huron Country Playhouse is making to the region." The Playhouse reports a break-even budget for the current year, boasting an 80 percent attendance for the season. With operations now in the black, the Playhouse wants to raise an additional $10;000 The Playhouse Board of Trustees is seeking out 100 people to give $100 each. The "100 Club" would be special friends of the Playhouse con- tributing to a "one time only" financing drive. The special drive will be headed up by Dave Sheppard, a member of the Playhouse Board of Trustees. On the capital side of things, the Playhouse, which financed its development through a seven year bank loan, looks forward to a retired mortgage in the near future. Jacqui M•anning- Albert, Theatre Officer for the Ontario Arts Council, said this week that she thought the Huron Country Playhouse was a really dedicated and hard working organization. Ms. Manning -Albert was referring to the ways and means by which the Playhouse raises funds to support its activities. The Art Auction netted $3,500, the Beaux Art Ball made $725, the Lottery brought in $350, the Consignment Auction made $600 and the Spring Dance made $650 In addition to these activities, the Playhouse Guild, a group of women volunteers whose purpose it is to assist the Playhouse, contributed $4,000 to capital operations during the 1977-78 fiscal year. The Guild raises money through membership fees and through various bazaars, teas, fashion shows, etc. HELEN TENCH VOLUNTEERED HER SERVICES FIRST -FOR THE P.U.C.
