are the initials for the Ignition; Cooling and Electrical sys-
tems, the three main factors affecting your car's depend-
ability when temperatures drop.
According to Car Care Council of Canada, these are the`

IGNITION SYSTEM --- YOU
may bewell advised to in-
vest in a tune-up if you're
nearing the 10,000 mile
mark since the last time
that work was done. This
usually involves replace-
ment of distributor points, * * *
condenser, and rotor plus ELECTRICAL SYSTEM—That

cient engine operation. Then again, it could be
the battery itself. A bat-
tery's average life is from 26
to 36 months. To play it safe,

circuit, battery and connec-
tions checked while you are
in command of the situa-
tion.
Ask your mechanic for a
safety check, too, including

brakes, - windshield wipers -'

ers and steering mechan-

you could have either an
overheating engine or re-
duced engine efficiency. A
faulty thermostat also can
cause your car's heater to
lose its effectiveness.
COOLING SYSTEM --There's
more to cooling system
maintenance than flushing
the radiator and replacing
the anti -freeze. The system
should be pressure tested
for potential leaks. Hoses
and belts should be exam-
ined and replaced as neces-
sary.
The thermostat, , which

Daytime Use of Car Lights
Cuts Aecidents:fr .Drivers
Fall and winter driving
means increased hours of,
darkness. Obviously, your
car's lights will be getting
more use. But do you use
your lights as much as you
should?
According to professional
drivers, use of headlights has
an effect- on safety. Checker
Cab Company in Chicago
conducted a 12 -month ex-
periment where drivers put
on their headlamps during
the day as well as at night.
The result was a 10 per-
cent decrease in accidents.
Bodily injury accidents were
reduced 12 percent.
Why the decrease?
According to Checker,
"First, by physically turning
on and shutting off the head-
lights, the driver is reminded
he is doing something for
safety.
"Second, pedestrians and
other drivers are constantly,
telling our men that their
lights are on and this serves
as a further reminder of
safety to the driver. Also,
when Checker drivers see
other Checker cabs with
their headlights on, they
think of safety."
Other reasons offered for
increased use of headlights:

IN A BLIND -- A windshield splashed with winter road slush can provide a moment of terror
to any motorist. For a fraction of a moment he is practically blind. It takes good wipers to
clear away the obstruction as quickly as possible and restore safe visibility. Replace those
worn wipers before poor winter weather sets in.

USE THE PRESERVE -A -SHINE• FORMULA -IT WORKS!
READ ON...
Tidy Car's Presery-A-Shine formula is not a wax. It is an exclusive formulation which
provides a protective, glass -like shine which seals out the harmful effects of
oxidation, salt, snow, sun -fading etc. Presery-A-Shine is actually buffed right into the
treated surfaces to form a protective shield against the elements which would have
inevitably destroyed that show -room shine. This 'buffed -in' process is made possible
and economical due to the exclusive equipment used by Tidy Car Independent
Operators which mechanically duplicates the action of the human hand, except about
250 times faster than the human hand can work. The slight amount of heart generated
by the equipment literally 'bonds' the' Presery-A-Shine to the treated surfaces in a
manner not possible without 'this unique equipment.
Presery-A-Shine will keep your new car looking new and can even regain much of the
original lustre when applied to older vehicles.
Naturally, because of the inevitable build-up of industrial pollutants, chemical and
detergent build-up from car washes, road grime, etc., it will be necessary to have
your local Tidy Car Independent Operator perform a periodic Presery-A-Shine
Resealant Treatment at least once a year in order to remove this build-up and in order
to reprotect all treated areas. Neither Tidy Car Inc. nor its Independent Operators
would insult your intelligence by telling you that any type of process could retain a
lustrous shine underneath the dulling effects of deposits from the aforementioned
build-up. This annual resealant treatment is necessary in order to remove these
natural build-ups. Your Tidy Car Independent Operator will perform the necessary
cleaning and resealant simply for the price of his service charge or service call fee.
Be sure to contact your Tidy Car Independent Operator prior to the anniversary date
of the original Presery-A-Shine Treatment each year or as recommended by your
Operator.
In order to retain the appearance and trade-in value of your vehicle, it is recom-
mended that you ask your Tidy Car Independent Operator to periodically maintain
your vinyl roof and i' or provide you with a complete interior shampoo and detailed
interior clean-up. You may also have your fabric interior and carpeting treated with
Tidy Car's Upholstery Guard Treatment which protects against food, liquid, child,
and pet stains for several months.
REMEMBER—Tidy Car .Independent Operators from coast to coast can maintain the
appearance of your vehicle almost anywhere it is parked, days, evenings, or
weekends, professionally and economically at your convenience.
