Figure skating news
Three more
registrations were made
on Saturday, October 21.
Beginners are
privileged this year to
have 3/4 of an hour
practise time with full ice
to themselves. As an
added advantage, more
time is available to them
on Wednesdays 5:.15-6
This allows pros and
helpers better time to
assist the youngsters to
enjoy learning to skate
while stroking and
playing ice games.
The first skater to pass
tests this season was
Janet Tench, who passed
her beginners and
stroking tests.
Congratulations, Janet.
Two weeks ago, we
discussed how skates
should fit. Last week, we
learned how to make
them feel more com-
fortable or "break them
in".
This week, let's talk
about caring for your
blades. First of all, have
mom turn your skates
upside down and line the
blades up with her eye to
check if the blades have
been attached squarely
on the sole of the boot.
Occasionally they , are
found to be off centre and
the skater wonders why
he has such a rough time
manoeuvring! •
- Always wear skate
guards when walking on
skates off ice (unless you
tread only on •rubber
mats) .
After you remove your
skates, remove the skate
guards too. Wipe the
blades as dry as possible
with a soft absorbent
cloth. When you hang
your . skates away at
home, check the blades
again. They probably
could be wiped dry again.
Failing to do these
procedures, your blades
will rust. Remember to
leave the guards off the
blades during the week.

Cellulose Insulation recalled
Cellulose Insulation
of Scarboro has
agreed to recall all the
cellulose insulations for
the St. Marys area in
order to carry out fire
testing.
The St. Marys Journal
Argus reported that the
recall was made after an
incident in the town

reported, insulation being
installed in a St. Marys
home was subjected to
heat from a light bulb and
it started to smolder and
smoke.
The local fire chief,
Don Swan further in-
vestigated and found that
