Benmiller Inn enlar es dining aarea
The Benmiller Inn
welcomes the autumn
season with new and
enlarged dining facilities.
Modifications have made
the existing dining room
more welcoming and
accessible by providing a
new and more convenient
entrance.
The solarium has also
been altered and has
become a light, bright
cheery dining room, the
ideal spot for relaxed
dining in autumn and
winter, with a marvelous
view of terrace, garden
and hillside. These
facilities will make it
'easier to accommodate
private groups.
As well as the physical
alterations, an entirely
new and exciting menu
has been developed,
presenting local products
in interesting and
unusual ways. Food has
always been impdrtant at
Benmiller and the in-
tention is to make the Inn
as well known for its
Bell books out
The 1978-79 telephone
directory for London -St.
Thomas and surrounding
area , has a cover
featuring lush
photographs of the four
seasons of the year in
Ontario.
Peter Croome, local
Bell Canada manager,
said delivery will start
October 23 and is ex-
pected to be completed by
November 4.
Some 224,000 direc-
tories will be delivered
this year, about 13,000
more than last year. By
continuing its policy of
one directory per
household, Bell is con-
serving more than 35,000
copies.
If a customer has not
received his directory by
November 6 he should
call 434-3228, collect if the
number is not in his local
calling area.
The new directory has
additional information
about Bell Canada and
the steps that should be
taken by a customer if he
is not satisfied with the
treatment he has been
given by the company,
Mr. Croome said.
There are two pages
headed: We're here to
help you at Bell. Canada.
Here's how to reach us.
Business office
telephone numbers and
hours of business are
listed for each exchange.
Locations where sub-
scribers can pay their
bills personally are listed
as well as the mailing
address for bi11
payments. Customer
complaint procedures are
then spelled out. Other
company numbers are
listed, such as repair and
directory assistance.
There are also two
pages near the end of the
introductory pages
headed "Getting the most
out of your phone." They
deal with such subjects as
planning your service
carefully; avoiding
directory assistance
charges; stretching your
long distance dollar; coin
telephone pointers;
special needs; your child
and the phone and phone
problems.
A new feature of the
1978-79 directory is a map
of Canada and the United
States showing the area
Codes, which are needed
when calling long
distance, and the time
zones.
The pictures on the
front and back covers
show tulips in the spring,
a family of birds on a lake
at sunset in summer,
leaves turning in , the
autumn and a snow-
covered park scene in
winter.

Hensall Seniors
meet
The Hensall Senior
Citizens met in the local
hall last Tuesday evening
with the President Mrs.
Bertha MacGregor
presiding with Mrs. Laird
Mickle at the piano.
Following the roll call
and minutes the
treasurer Mrs. Bert
Horton gave the bill and
exquisite food as it is
already known for its
imaginative and
luxurious ac-
commodations.
The recently in-
troduced dinner menu
captures flavours of fine
old fashioned country inn
dining offering local
items such as sauteed
trout, roast marinated
pheasant, braised rabbit,
roast lamb and beef. The
rabbit is raised right in
the hamlet of Benmiller.
Only fresh vegetables are
used, and there are plans
for growing vegetables on
the Inn property itself.
Freshness is guaranteed,
most coming from the
local market gardens.
The Chef's recom-
mended menu allows for
seasdnal variations and
permits the Inn to offer
interesting foods such as
fresh Maitland River,
salmon, Lake Huron
perch, or game. To match
the quality of the faie, the
cellar is stocked with a
carefully selected list of
wines that admirably
compliment the food.
From time to time,
special buys of limited
quantities of unusual and
hard -to -find vintages
offer a chance for ad-
venturous tasting.
Credit for this new
menu and the develop-
ment of recipes goes to
the chef, Bernard Verge,
a remarkably talented
young man, whose goal is
to develop a unique
Benmiller kitchen that
reflects the Inn's style
and location. Bernard
learned his craft in the
kitchens of some of
Ontario's finest country
clubs and spent six years
with a major hotel chain
before coining to Ben -
miller. Last October, he
set about the painstaking
task of developing his
own menu for the Inn.
The results of his en -
devours are there' to be
tasted... and Bernard has
not stopped searching
and experimenting!
The kitchen provides
only one aspect of a total
dining experience. The
Head Waiter, Hugh Neil,
who joined Benmiller in
1977 is determined that
the dining room service
and atmosphere will be
thoroughly professional
without ever losing the
warmth and friendliness
of a real country inn. His
vast experience, gained
in such fine establish-
ments as Toronto's
legendary Franz Josef
Room and Jasper Park
Lodge is being passed on
to his eager staff. •
An enlarged dining
room, a new menu, a
splendid staff, and the
same traditional Ben -
miller welcome. Cer-
tainly more than enough
reason to visit Benmiller
again this fall and winter'
or, discover the pleasures
of dining for the first time
at Benmiller Inn.
The Canadian
Automobile Association
and American
Automobile Association
recently awarded Ben -
miller Inn a four diamond
rating.
