(Times Advocate photo.) s week at the Legion By Rene Brochu Our weekly TGIF at- tendance is improving as each week passes and your staff is continually attempting to vary the lunch menu, so anyone with ideas are welcome to present them to the staff. Saturday night our auditorium was the scene of the 50th wedding an- niversary of our Comrade Guy Ives and his char- ming wife. About 60 close relatives and friends were present. Immediate relatives were Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ives from Brussels, Mr. and Mrs, George Ives from Blyth, Mr. and Mrs. Ken Staples from Port Colbourne and Mr. and Mrs. David Colclough from Clinton. Also present were two sisters of Mrs. Ives, who were also married 50 years ago, Mr. and Mrs. Lance Kellington of Kingsville and Mr. and Mrs. Leroy 'Mervin of Windsor. Guy's aunt, Mrs. Edith Lithardt from Waterloo and Mrs. John Ryrnal, mother of Guy were also in attendance which made a total of four generations all gathered together for the occasion. A brother of Guy's was also a guest. Comrade Glen Ives from Aylmer who is a veteran and member of the Aylmer Legion Branch. Other relatives and guests were from Leamington, Teeswater, Petro.lia, Essex, Port Colbourg, Stables, Toronto, St. Thomas, London, Windsor, Ingersoll, Guelph, Lin- coln Park Michigan, and the surrounding County communities. The master of ceremonies was Mr. Robert Fox who recalled the past 50 years. Robert rr is nephew to the couple. The grand children put on some enjoyable skits thoroughly , pleasing to the couple and their guests. Our own ladies Auxiliary were again back at it serving a delicious roast beef dinner, We members of Branch 140 also would like to wish you, Comrade and Mrs. Ives, every success and a happy pleasant life together for the future years to come. The Legion was again busy last week as seminars again played an important role in our zone. The seminars in- cluded the service bureau, membership, action, welfare and pension board com- mittees. Our branch was well represented by our president Comrade John Semple and past president Comrade John Deeves. 13 more projects inHuron: get Wintario grants Grants totalling $38,196 have been approved for 13 projects in Huron County from the proceeds of the Ontario Lottery. Culture and Recreation Minister Reuben C. Baetz said today's grants are part of the Share Win- tario program for the support of cultural and recreational facilities and activities. To date in 1978, the ministry has allotted $52.2 million to more than 6,254 groups and projects throughout the province. A grant of $23,158 is to go to the Township of Tuckersmith to share in the costs of constructing a community centre complete with a comunity hall, a gymnasium and an indoor pool. The Brussels Flying Club is to receive a grant of $5,473' to assist with the purchase of a Cessna aircraft. , A grant of $4,943 is to go to the Vanastra Curling Club in Clinton to aid in the costs of renovations and the purchase of an ice scraper. The Goderich Slow - Pitch League will use a grant of $684 to assist with the purchase ' of equipment and trophies. A grant of $671 will be made to the Seaforth- Dashwood Community Band to assist with the purchase of winter uniforms. The Walkerton' Area Sports Club is to receive a grant of $603 to aid in the costs of installing a fence around a . local ball diamond. A grant of $477 will be made to the Township of Howick to aid in the purchase of spectator - heaters for the Howick Home decorating course. offered The Home Economics Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food is offering a one -day Interior Home Decorating short course. Topics include: Guidelines to Good Design; Colour in the Home; Choosing Wall Coverings; and Window Treatments, '. Everyone is welcome to attend. There is no ad- mission charge. He also showed slides of his former charges in New Brun- swick. The roll call, asking for things you are thankful for in your garden was answered.
