Thanksgiving Sunday
Worship service was
-held in Holmesville
United Church. This
being their Thanksgiving
Sunday, the church was
decorated with fruit and
vegetables and fall
flowers.
Jackie Norman,
Brenda Harris, Janine
Mayhew sang an anthem.
The children were given
two candies, one to be
given to someone without
lone and then went to their
classes. Rev. John
Oestreicher spoke on
"Thankfulness". Mr.
Doug Norman and Mr.
Frank Thompson
received the offering.
Holmesville 1 4-H
The fourth meeting of
the Cuisine Cookers 4-H
club was held at the home
of Kate Doorly. The roll
call was answered by
naming "the soup recipe
found based on white
sauce".
The members read
from their biscuits arid
planned a theme for their
party, which is
Halloween, each member
is to bring a friend that
doesn't belong to 4-H.
The teams were chosen
with Kate Doorly and
Mary Jean Bettles as
leaders. Kate's team
made wheat germ
biscuits, while Mary
Jean's made cheese and
bacon swirls. Each
member tasted the
biscuits and swirls.
Holmesville School
news
At the present time, the
Clinton Legion Branch is
sponsoring a literary
contest among the pupils
on these topics: the
significance of
remembrance.;, what
confederation means to
me; why I wear a poppy;
the role of the senior
citizen in our society. The
categories for this school
are these: categories 11,
grades 6, 7 and 8 - (1) a
composition of not more,
than 500 words or (2) a
poem of not more than 32
lines. Categories 111,
grades 1-5 - a composition
of not more than 350
words. This contest is
sponsored by Legions
throughout Canada.
This cross-country will
be held on Tuesday,
October 24 in Hullett-
Kinburn area. Rain date
for the event will be
October 25.
In the month of
October, an election will
be held to determine the
executive of the student
council. Pupils who are
eligible are encouraged
to participate in this
worthwhile group, who,
in the past, have given
excellent support to the
school.
Special dates - Wed-
nesday, October 11 soccer
tournament; Wednesday,
October 24, cross-
country, raindate,
October 25; Monday,
October 30, no school for
pupils, professional
achievement day.
Variety night
The Goderich Township
Women's Institute will
hold a Variety night on
Thursday, October 26.
This will include local
talent from the township.
The show commences
at 8:15 p.m: apd the
tickets will be $2 each for
adults, and $1 for high
school students, public
school children, free.
Personals
Miss Pat Harris was
home with her family for
Thanksgiving.
-Miss Shirley Norman
was home with her family
for Thanksgiving.
Mrs. Isobel Harris
enjoyed several days in
London visiting with her
sister, Irene Durnin.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Feagan opened their
home for a Thanksgiving
dinner and ' had as their
guests Mr. and Mrs. Doug
Feagan and Jean, Jane
Carter and Kelly, and Mr.
and Mrs. Don Harris.
