Too few phoned in for

CLINTON NEWS -R CORD, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28,1978 --AGE 7
Fitness van coming to area
In October of 1977, the
Ontario Government,
through the Ministry of
Culture and Recreation
implemented the "Fit-
ness Ontario" program.
This is an 11tpart plan
geared toward educating
and motivating the
citizens of Ontario to
pursue a more physically
active lifestyle. The
driving forces behind the
inauguration of this
program were the
generally low levels of
fitness of Ontario adults
and the spiralling costs of
medical services in the
province.
The Physical Fitness
Assessment Program is
one part of the plan and
has been in operation
since April of 1978. Its
aims are to motivate the
inactive to become fit by
providing individual
fitness appraisals, to
provide general lifestyle
information, to motivate
community members to
promote fitness in their
region and to provide a
provincial data base
regarding fitness levels
of adults in Ontario.
Our purpose is not to
mass test in your com-
munity for the sake of
making money. We are
more concerned about
leaving you with a
positive feeling about our
program generally and
about physical fitness
specifically.
The test itself takes
approximately 11/2 hours
to complete at a cost of
$12. It includes a lung
function test, an aerobic
capacity (efficiency of
the heart vessels) test,
tests of muscular
strength and endurance,
a flexibility test and a
determination of per-
centage of body"fat and
ideal body weight. The
test is private personal
and the results are kept
confidential.
As well, there is a
consultation period at the
end of the practical
section of the test during
which time the testee is
provided with an exercise
prescription, information
brochures on various
fitness topics and an-
swers to questions
regarding fitness in
general from the
members of the testing
staff.
The test date for
