Brucefield CLINTON NEWS -RECORD, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 21,1978 -PAGE 19 news BY JEAN TAYLOR Mrs. Lois Striefler of California is visiting with her brotHer and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Moffat and her mother, Mina Moffat of Clinton. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Scott have returned home from a trip to the East coast where they at- tended a Masonic con- vention in Monkton, New Brunswick and at Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Sager and family have moved to their new home in Vanastra. Mr. Elgin Thompson spent a few days at Sault Ste Marie. Mr. Sheldon Ross has returned home from hospital after undergoing surgery. Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Mel Graham attended a telephone convention at Edmonton. Mrs. Lorne Wilson is a patient in Clinton Public Hospital, having suffered a fall. Mrs. Lawrence Elliott received word that her uncle had been murdered in Mexico. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Rice from Deerfield, Florida are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baird. The Brucefield area was well represented at the Seaforth Fall Fair's pork barbecue and thoroughly enjoyed the music of Walter Ostanek and his band. CHURCH HAPPENINGS Norma McGregor opened the Unit 3 meeting of the UCW with a story. The worship and study were centered around the Caribbean. Joan Grunewald was in charge of the topic and told about a Caribbean family - their ancestry - their religion and economic situation. Four groups were formed and a discussion followed concerning the article. Following the study, Mrs. McGregor gave a reiading. Mrs... E.}leen . . McGregor, president welcomed everyone back to the start of the fall meetings. After the business was taken, Alice Broadfoot and her helpers served tea and coffee. This Sunday, Sep- tember 24, Awards Day for the Sunday School classes will be held. This will take place,during the morning services of worship. The Sunday School teachers will have a meeting on Thursday, September 21 at the church. Choir . practice is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. and new members are invited to attend. TUCKERSMITH UCW The Tuckersmith Unit 1 of the UCW from the Brucefield United Church held their monthly meeting on September 11 with a small attendance of 14. Mrs. Ann Broadfoot and Mrs. Mary Haugh were in charge of the devotion. Mrs. Broadfoot played, the piano to ac- coi'npany hymns in the absence of Mrs. Scott. Mrs.. Haugh gave a Bible reading and then Mrs. Broadfoot took the study. The collection was then received by Mrs. Broadfoot 'and' dedicated by Mrs. Haugh. Mrs. Sillery gave the secretary's report and Mrs. Berry gave the treasurer's report. Mrs. Stoll reported for the get well committee. Those who were ill during the summer included, Mrs. Wilber Keys, Mrs. Grace Thomson, ,Mrs. Helen'Pepper, and Seldon Ross. An anniversary card was also sent to Mr. and Mrs.. Jim McNaughton. Mrs. Jean Henderson chaired the business portion of the meeting in the absence of Mrs. M. Broadfoot. A .thankoffering meeting is' scheduled for OctAber and the barbecue is set for October 13.
