,ACW meets

meeting of the ACW of St.
James Church, Middleton
was held Thursday,
September 14th at the
home of Mrs. William
Smith. Estelle Wise,
leader ' in charge of the
meeting, opened the
meeting reading a poem
"remembering" from
Peggy Gibb's column of
the Clinton News' -Record.
The invocation was read
by Estelle Wise, Delores
Dutot read the scripture,
and Estelle read the'
Meditation Theme.
The Litany was led by
Delores Dutot and Shirley
Storey , gave the
secretary's report.
Thank-yous wer•,e
received from Ed Deeves
and Joe Storey. Audrey
Middleton read a letrer
from Miss Rees while
Sarah Storey moved they
give the Canadian
Institute of the Blind $15.
Vera Miller gave the
treasurers report, and
Estelle Wise gave the
card report in the ab-
sence of Blanche Deeves.
Estelle Wise gave ' a
reading and the draw for
the autographed quilt
was made by Debbie
Smith and won by Vera
Hudie of Clinton.
The meeting was closed
by Estelle Wise and lunch
was served by Lois Smith
assisted by Audrey
Middleton.
Personals
Ladies of St. James are
asked to have all their
pennies wrapped and
turned in by the October
meeting. ,
Tom Lippert of
Highgate was in the area
visiting with old school
chums,
Edward and Blanche
Deeves along with Jean
and Clarence Perdue
enjoyed a holiday last
week travelling to
Tobermory and taking
the Chi-Cheemaun to
Manitoulin Island and
travelli ,,, to Sault Ste.
Marie,- topping at dif-
ferent oints along the
way. t,,,,
At Sault Ste. Marie they
took a :train ride to the
Agawa Canyon and a boat
cruise . through the
Americhn Locks and
Canadian Locks and a
view of the Harbour,
stopped ; at Collingwood
on the way home and saw
the candy factory and
pottery works, and on to
the caves and a look over
Georgian Bay -a beautiful
sight. i; .

congratulations to Vera
Hudie on being the
winner of the
autographed quilt. The
ladies of the ACW would
like to thank everyone
who purchased tickets.
Also during the ACW
meeting the last name
was put on the quilt in the
name of Tessa Hope
Steenstra, wee daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Steenstra.
Next Sunday, Sep-
tember 24th, the service
at St. James Church,
Middleton will be can-
celled and a joint service
will be held in Trinity
Church Bayfield with The
Right Rev. W. A.
Townshend, guest
preacher with Rev.
William Bennett in
charge of the service.
Ladies of St. James
Church are asked to
please bring squares or
cookies on Sunday.
Sunday, October 1st at
St. James Church Mid-
dleton, Harvest Home
Sunday will be held, also
Holy Communion will be
celebrated. The
congregation is asked to
bring canned food and
non-perishable food to the
service which will be
taken to Family and
Children Services,
Goderich.
Michael Bennett, son of
Rev. William and. Mrs.
Bennett has .arrived
home from Denmark
where he attended the
World Wide Convention of
computer scientists.
Michael was represen-
ting the University of
Western Ontario where
he teaches. Rev. Bennett
says Michael will be in
Bayfield Monday evening
to pick up his 100 pound
dog and the rector says
"Praise the Lord".
Mr. and Mrs. C. Brand
had a young man visiting
with them this summer,
quilt draw
they received a letter
from him and now he
wishes he was still in
Canada — much more
entertainment here in the
evenings than in Holland.
Holmesville
II 4-H
Mrs. C. Brand will be a
leader for the
Holmesville II 4-H again
this year as her assistant
will be Mrs. John Brand.
Any girl who would like to
join must be 12 years of
age by September 1st.
The first meeting will be
September 25 at 7 pm at
the home of Mrs. C.
Brand.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Dutot
and Ivan spent 'the
weekend with Alvin and
Delores Dutot.
Mrs. Fred Middleton,
Stewart Middleton,
Mabel and Ross Mid-
dleton attended the
wedding on Saturday of
Karen Tyndall and
Vincent Mayne in Clinton
and attended the
reception later at the
White Carnation.
Ladies important to Match
The corner of Fifth
Street and Armstrong
Avenue promises to be a
busy spot during the last
week of September.
You're not likely to find
that intersection on a
local map however - it
will be located in the
International Plowing
Match's famous Tented
City.
The "address" is the
location of this year's
ladies' program and it's
bigger and better than
ever.
"Women have always
been encouraged to come
to the Plowing Match and

host farmer and
chairlady of the match's
Ladies' Program
Committee. "But this
year we really wanted to
attract the whole family
and show them a great
time in Huron County."
The program willbe
held in two huge tents and
a building, all tied
together by a landscaped
courtyard.
The main tent will be
set up theatre style to
seat up to 600 people. The
continuous program
features daily fashion
shows, cooking
demonstrations, hair-
styling exhibitions and an
audience participation
exercise program.
"Since white beans are
Huron's high value crop,
the cooking demon-
strations will centre on
that food sponsored by
the Ontario Bean
Producers' Marketing

The subscription rates and newsstand price for
Clinton News Record will be increased effec-
tive Oct. 2, 1978.
The increase is due to increased costs; larger
papers causing higher postage; and other
rising production costs.
The change in the newsstand price will be from
30' to 35'. Part of this increase will go to the
boys delivering News Record and to the
newsstand vendors.
The change in the local subscription price will
be from '13.00 to 94.00 and on senior citizen
rate from 91.00 t o 92.00.
